iTunes opens in Japan

p2pnet.net News:- Apple has opened an iTunes store in Japan, “giving music fans the same innovative features, breakthrough pricing, seamless integration with iPod and groundbreaking personal use rights that have made iTunes the number one online music service in the world,” it says, not to put too fine a point on things ; )

It’s also generously offering customers a special “pre-order” version of the new Rolling Stones album “A Bigger Bang” plus a “bonus” video.

It doesn’t say what “special” means, or how much the Stones promo will cost.

Meanwhile, Apple is trotting out its DRM-loaded offerings for 150 yen (about $1.35 at the time of writing) and 200 yen (about $1.80) per song.

Americans fork out $1.

Money down the toilet
But, “few Australians have ever experienced iTunes, despite the booming sales of iPods,” writes Australia’s Alex Malik.

“This is because despite all of the hype, hysteria and promise, the iTunes download site continues to be unavailable to most Australians. Aside from countries like the US and UK, Australia has been beaten to the service by countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland.

“Australian consumers can’t even access the US iTunes site without a US issued credit card. In effect Australian consumers have been locked out of iTunes.”

Don’t worry, Alex. They’re not missing anything. The lack only means ussies aren’t throwing their money down the toilet, unlike punters elsewhere.

    get a clue.

music in japan is incredibly expensive… the pricing on iTMS Japan is pretty damn good, all things considered…

Furthermore.. saying the Aussies aren’t missing much, is akin to burying your head in the sand… The iTMS is the defacto standard for legal music.. and legal music is gaining on stolen music fast.

Reason being… the labels are getting better at clogging the networks with decoy files… and those networks are filled with viruses etc.

To boot.. I bought stuff from the iTMS BECAUSE THE SELECTION WAS BETTER THAN P2P.

Wow.. never thought you’d hear that eh?
