Alleged uploader faces jail

p2pnet.net News:- A 19-year-old Missouri man is the first to be indicted under a new US federal law which became effective in April and which is meant to stop people from secretly camcording movies in theaters.

Curtis Salisbury made copies of The Perfect Man and Bewitched, “and then distributed them through illicit computer networks that specialize in piracy,” says Reuters, quoting the Justice Department.

He also, “downloaded several movies and software programs from the computer network,” according to the story.

Salisbury now faces up to 17 years in prison, says Reuters, going on:

“Law enforcement officials say most participants in warez networks are generally not motivated by profit. In this instance, Salisbury sought payment for the movies he uploaded, the Justice Department said.”

He may have been netted in Site Down, the costly Hollywood inspired FBI operation in which agents acted as corporate cops, looking after cartel business through 90 searches worldwide, with 70 taking place in the US.

    Jeez, guys.

Do you have any idea how much it cost me to have someone write an algorithm that creates deliberate mistakes in p2pnet copy so people can get me on them?

Then another bot goes around 48 hours later and fixes them so when the rest of the world catches up, there are no mistakes ; P

    Cheers!

Well I didn’t have room to complain, “dont’ ” doesn’t fit anything but typo as it is.

So let me see if i understand this right. He recorded 2 movies on a camcorder and tried to sell them. like anyone with a brain would have paid! But now he’s gonna do 17 years.

Obviously if you get caught in a cinema with a camcorder, try to kill the ushers and claim you wanted to record the incident for your friends. You’ll probly get less time in jail.

Wonder how many murderers/rapists are gonna get out early to make room in prison for camcorder pirates? After all, the prison system in the US is already having trouble finding room for real criminals isn’t it?

    Thieves go to jail. Word.
