It comes in a Kansas Citry Infozine post on the recent US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation mockery (oops, hearing) called to examine options following the US Supreme Court’s Grokster / StreamCast v MGM ruling.
Applauding in the background was Big Four record label truth manipulist Mitch Bainwol, whose flacks dreamed up the p2p/pornography link so it could be parroted ad nauseum by the likes of Boxer and another Hollywod favourite, senator OrrinHiatch who, it’s hoped, won’t be on the political scene for much longer.
By an amazing coincidence, Boxer’s top supporters in the 2004 fund raising cycle were the TV, movie and music cartels who chucked in an impressive three quarters of a million dollars.
And she’s so far clocked up $720,410 in the 2006 cycle.

Since when have the members of the cartels been one to use as the model of morality?
Are we talking law breaking? If so, how about the latest from Elliot Spitzer where the cartels are still engaged in payolla? Something that was ruled illegal in this country yet still practiced and Sony being the first of the cartels to admit to participating in law breaking?
Telling the truth prehaps? Again in conjunction with Elliot’s investigation Sony has agreed to pay for lying to the public. The offense? Using in house workers to pump up a films popularity by posing as those having just watched the film and giving a roundhouse review in favor of the movie. Or how about the making of a fictious critic who supports the favored movie of the moment? In otherwords, lying to the public.
Pornography? What is one of the main themes of music videos? How is it displayed? Is it sex between two loving couples that is themed? LOL but it doesn’t look like it from this perspective. It sure resembles as close to porn as can be shown on public tv. At least p2p is somewhat restrictive in viewing audience. If that’s not enough, apparently the good senator hasn’t been to the p2ps I have. It is routine that those with porn are shown the door for having the subject as share.
Maybe it should be suggested instead that the good senator’s loyalities are tied to the money. That money has purchased the speaker to speak on the subject. Those she represents when she speaks of this subject have no concept of the word.

As far as I’m concerned, once music is played on the public (OUR) airwaves, it is in the public domain. When was the last time the public got a share of the money made from playing music on public airwaves. I never have. The only ones who gets a share of these revenues are the cartels, the government, and maybe the creators. Since we are not being paid for the commercial use of our public airwave, then the material must be put there for public use. I am using it as I see fit because it is OURS to use. When will the government , courts, and cartels get this in their thick heads?

How many movies, songs, and games depict theft, murder, adultry, arson, rape, cursing, blasphemy, and devious plots? Now guess who produces these movies, songs, and video games. How many of these companies market this crap to our youth?
What kind of works were intended by the Founding Fathers to be protected by copyright and patent laws? It is works beneficial to society that wre meant to be protected by patent and copyright.
Here is how the U.S. Constitution words the power allowed to Congress to protect exclusive rights:
Congress Shall Have Power To [...] promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries
How does the depiction of theft, murder, adultry, arson, rape, cursing, blasphemy, and devious plots benefit society or our culture?
I see that these depictions cause harm rather than benefit our nation. How come they still get the protection of government, police, and courts?
Next, who are the ones that protect the people who produces these songs, movies, and games. Yup, it is the nation’s politicians, judges, and police. Worse yet this protection of producers of smut is approved by many religious organizations such as the Christian Coalition. So, if we want to talk about corrupting children, let’s place the blame where it belongs. It belongs at the feet of studios, judges, polititions of the ilk of Barbara Boxer, and religious organizations such as the Christian Coalition.

Well said. Don’t blame that which distributes smut, go to the source and stop it there. Of course, follow that path and you find nothing but corruption. Politicians in bed with the industry that produces said smut.
Articles like this don’t really surprise me though. I mean, the generation primarily in power at the moment is the same one that couldn’t program a VCR clock to save their lives. It’s no wonder they fear technology so. Thankfully, thinking will gradually shift as they grow old and retire, and the youth of our generation comes to power. You know, the ones raised in a technologically rich environment and whom haven’t learned to fear it but instead embrace it. The only certain thing in life is change as they say. Lets just hope the mess being created now doesn’t become too big to clean up in the future.

People who share files on p2p networks are more generous because they share their own music too (the music on their own hard disks). A lot of p2p users do leave their computer running even when they are not getting any files because they are glad to let other people get their music too. This is well being.
