Online advertising explodes
p2pnet.net News: You are worth a lot of money to a lot of people. They sue you, villify you, call you liars and cheats and thieves and use government administrations and law enforcement agencies around the world to try to hammer you into buying their product.
But they depend on you wholly for their very survival. That’s why, coupled with legal terror strategies handled by the likes of the RIAA, BSA, IFPI, etc, they’re spending vast amounts trying to scam you into buying ‘their’ product over everyone else’s.
‘Ordinary’ advertising – text and graphic messages extolling the virtues of a given commodity or service – has been part of the scene for decades. But there’s a difference between trying to talk you into buying something, and trying to force it onto you through driving, relentless, hard-core hard-sell.
In the 21st century, sophisticated and extreme mind-invasion techniques and imageries created by teams of professional psychologists and scientists are custom-designed to literally compel ‘consumers’ to ‘consume’ – to buy something that, uninfluenced, they’d never go near in a month of Sundays.
Until very recently, the millions of dollars to disseminate these hard-sell tools have been spent on offline print and electronic media advertising, but with the Net’s popularity soaring, the ad agencies are increasingly polluting online media.
Streaming media advertising and subscription revenue will reach $950 million in 2005 with video and audio advertising forecast to rocket by 78% to $343 million, and 82% to $22 million, respectively, says AccuStream iMedia Research.
Combined, the market for streaming advertising, subscription and download media including movies and music, is estimated at $1.36 billion this year, up 110% over 2004, it says.
But expect to see, and hear, more.
The market for streaming audio ads is “18-24 months behind that of video, even though many radio sites now incorporate pre-roll streaming video before audio streams,” says AccuStream. “It began in 2004, but 2005 is truly shaping up to be an exciting one for streaming video advertising, and streaming advertising in general.”

It is only natural that online advertising is soaring.
That is because the INTERNET is the medium of not only the future, but of today. Even is 3rd world countries, their internet infrastructure is being developed. I can tell from experience that people in developing countries, even if they don’t have running water (or clean water for that matter), still (usually) have access to a COMMUNITY internet.
And they love it, because unlike ‘traditionally controlled media’ (i.e. radio, television, satellite) the people have a say over what they want to read/look at. The internet is interactive and personal. In a place where snail mail is horribly slow (especially in remote areas), email and chatting is interactive and with a real person.
So if your goal is to advertise, you will find it more EFFECTIVE through the internet, especially search engines like GOOGLE and BAIDU.
But, that said, don’t get caught up in the hype. There’s only a limited amount of advertising dollars going around. The internet will garner a larger lion’s share of advertising dollars, but DO NOT expect ridiculous forecasts…..
