New US daylight savings bill

p2pnet.net News :- George W is to sign a US "energy-saving" bill today under which daylight saving time will start three weeks earlier and end a week later that it used to.

But, it has "technologists worried about software and gadgets that now compensate for daylight time based on a schedule unchanged since 1987," says the Associated Press.

And, "’It is unfortunately going to add a little bit of complexity to consumers," Reid Sullivan, vp of Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co is quoted as saying.

”In some cases, depending on the product, they may have to manually increase or decrease the time."

Nasty ; )

Do they acually believe that shifting around the figures is acually going to reduce energy costs? I smell a load of product from a male bovine.

    saving? where’s the savings?

isn’t this something for congress to deal with? can’t they stop it? oh i see, uncle george is doing it while they’re on vacation and can’t get to it.

this is just a ploy to try to make you believe that you’re getting more for less, but the reality is still that you’re paying more for less.

this past year i used much energy to heat my home, but i paid more for it.

unless King George II and his OPEC buddies lower the price of energy and the treasury depts of the world lower interest rates, nothing will change, though they’ll try to make you believe that it’s better.

yeah better. your kids will be going to school, waiting for buses in the dark. they’ll be on the street before the birds are awake.

extending the daylight “saving” time was tried in the seventies during the fake oil “crises”, and it wasn’t a success then. it won’t be a success now.

if technologists are against this – and they should be – they should protst it by cjanging NOTHING about their software and hardware products. let the king squirm in his new clothes when they don’t go along with it.

should read – “i used much less energy…”

    sorry. :(

Are you reading what you are writing? It is my firm belief that the very winners in this case are, indeed, the so-called technologists — the programmers and the miriad companies that will charge an arm and a leg for the consumer to update his technology products. I can almost see the ads, now, for a revised version of M$ XP — only $279.00 (marked down from $289.00) to bring your P.C. up to date with the newly established Daylight Savings Laws”, etc ad nausaeum…

The energy savings from daylight savings come about from one thing. People getting up earlier and going to bed earlier. So the lights aren’t on at night for as long. Nor are portable heaters, fans, tv’s, dvd’s etc. Most ppl wouldn’t notice any difference on their utility bills, but add it up over a few million consumers, and it’d start to show up a bit there.

I’m sure the power companies will just sue all the consumers who do cut their energy consumption, to protect their revenues and profits though. I mean like all big companies in trouble say, “we have an obligation to look after our shareholders”… which is surprisingly enough never finished with the missing “…we don’t have to give a damn about the customers though”.

Who are they kidding? Energy-saving my ass!

Don’t touch that light, but feel free tu buy the biggest an the baddest humvee available and burn that oil! Yeah!

In a compiter age where stuff that needs electricity is turned on 24/7 the power requirements for lightbulbs are irelevant. American goverment is again doing something that only looks like doing something. This bill costs Bush nothing, but if he would do something like reducing fuel emitions the lobying money goes bye-bye…
