HELP !!!! - Day Two

p2pnet.net donations campaign:- Help p2pnet to keep on standing up to the music, movie and software cartels.

Day One of our first (and last, we sincerely hope : ) donations drive, through which we’re trying to raise $2,500, has gone by and here are the results so far:

$90 has gone into PayPal. Of that, p2pnet gets $85.13 once PayPal has taken off its service payment.

Thanks, Lisa Marshall, Tracey Evans, Daniel Trampush, Norma Reynolds, Zoltan Markella and Winters&Bair. Truly. It’s really good of you.

We’ve also had pledges from David Tees, Craig Lester, Brian Renwick, Kiet Lam, William Keeley, James Reynolds and Jay W.

Pledges, eh? This is starting to look like a PBS drive. But come to think of it, we are a kind of PBS : )

Anyhow, we’ve had 333,599 visitors so far this month. Now, if they each contributed just $1, we’d hire at least two full time writers, get Sixto online full-time, buy some decent computer equipment for ourselves (my system is on its death bed), organize a new server. And so on.

But seriously, we’re not looking for that kind of money. Not even nearly.

We’re trying to raise $2,500 so Sixto can finish off the new content management system he’s been working on. This would allow us to get the new site happening. It’ll have a number of sections instead of one main page, as at present, and will open up the advertising possibilities. As a result, eventually, we’ll be able to eventually hire least two full time writers, get Sixto online full-time, buy some decent computer equipment for ourselves (my system is on its death bed), organize a new server. And so on.

If you’d like to read a little more on what this is all about, please go here.

And if you’d like to help out via PayPal, there’s a Make a donation button immediately on the left above the loggin box.

Quotes from some of the responses we’ve had …………..

“Hi Jon,” says Craig Lester in the UK. “I just read your column about needing some financial assistance. I can’t do much right now as I had a very bad month, but give me a couple of weeks and I will send you a few pounds or so - as much as I can spare.” Thanks, Craig.

Spammerslapper, Spammerslammer and SpamFryer developer William Keeley in the US offered to book an ad. We told him we couldn’t possibly allow that because he provides a terrific public service. “Yup and so is what you do,” he said. “Consider it a donation :-)” OK, William, we will. Thanks : )

“I’m a Vancouverite, living in South Korea and I read your site every day,” emailed David Tees who, for his sins has also become a p2pnet contributor. “I’m a little broke myself right now, but I would be more then willing to donate some money a month from now.” Thanks, David.

“I read your blog ever day and enjoy it,” says James Reynolds in the US. “Since I hate the riaa I`m taking a chance on you.I`m never donated before.” Thanks a lot, James. Your donation will be well spent. Count on it.

“Just reading through p2pnet as I do pretty much everyday and Im willing to fork over a couple of bucks as I am all for the filesharing community and the news and events that deal with it,” emailed Jay W. “Your site is my first source on what is going on in the world of filesharing.” Cheers Jay (Not at all incidentally, we discovered we both live on Vancouver Island about 1.5 hours from each other. Small world : )

“Ok m8,” said Brian Renwick in Britain. “Cheque will be with u asap. Please bear in mind I’m ex-army, now disabled so aint got much in the way of cash, but if i get some more Ill send it. I admire your stance re your kid(s), and the opinions you have are well inline with my own. Hell, I may even break my own rule and register on your site:) Cheers, mate. Thanks a lot.

“I have been scraping by myself being a college student with 7 loans but I can spare about 3 dollars as of now,” said a comment post. “I will check my Paypal account after I put some money in it in the next few days and contribute.” Thanks : ) The amount doesn’t matter. It all helps. It really does.

“Hey Jon & Sixto,” said another post. “Let us know how we can send cash, or money order, or whatever besides PAYPAL. I am totally willing to help immediately, but I don’t use Credit card or Paypal. Do you have a (preferably non-residential for good reasons) address to send cash or money order to? If so, please let us know. There’s probably many others in my situation, who will help, but don’t have paypal and the like!”

Kiet Lam emailed, “I can help, though it may not be much. Do you have a snail-mail address? I hope you use a rented address, for personal safety reasons (you don’t want the RIAA / MPAA hired goons to harass you - it can happen). Anyways, wanted to let you know you are doing a good job! Keep up the good work, and don’t despair!”

No worries. We won’t : ) And on the subject of snail-mail addies, if electronic transfers aren’t on for whatever reason, just email me at jon[at]p2pnet.net and I’ll get back to you ASAP with my mailing address which (Kiet Lam ; ) is a postal box because I live in a small village which doesn’t have live deliveries : )

For now, Cheers! And all the best …
Jon
