New NY security breach law
p2pnet.net News:- A.4254, a bill requiring New York businesses and state government agencies to tell consumers if sensitive data is taken in a security breach, has been signed by governor George Pataki, says CNET News.
California has similar rules and other states and the federal government are considering them, says the story
But the new law applies only to sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, or credit card numbers that aren’t encrypted.
