Interesting story. Very noble attitude to actually buy the CD"s rather then chase a free copy from the net. I also go out of my way to buy music from indies. I think that the folks drawn to sites like this represent a tiny minority of filesharers, and these readers and commentators represent the concerned, interested and radical ellements of P2P. Gauging from the many filesharers that I personally know, they couldn't care less if artists get paid. They are not aware or care about the many P2P issues, they are basically lazy and will go where its easiest and "free" to get whatever they want. Multiple burning to cd and dvd and passing it around. The unfortunate fact remains that these people ( mostly with basic tech skills) will never pay a dime, for even a thousand songs while, while they can get it "free" and easy. How can "open" ( without DRM) P2P ever go legit with this attitude abounding. It's really, really clear that that a massive amount of content owners dont want to simply give away their produce. Say what you will about this comment but remember. This site represents a tiny, tiny persentage of those involved in P2P. It's a great source of breaking info, but the vast overwhelming majority of people doing unauthorised downloading couldn't give a rip. If and when the cartels nail kazaa watch them go after skype and its newly declared value. The cartels could yet own the premier Voip company before this is all over. They'll also run,own and control the fastrack a nd all its associated shows. Unauthorised downloading will be driven further and further to the fringes, and be dominated by many small anon organisations, being harder and harder to find for the basically lazy folk who want to get stuff easily. Many of you wont like this post but it offers opinions that many others also share.
