WorldCom crook gets 5 years

p2pnet.net News:- Scott D. Sullivan, “an admitted leader" in the $11 billion WorldCom accounting fraud, has been sentenced to five years in prison, “a fifth of what sentencing guidelines suggested and a striking example of the benefits of cooperating with government prosecutors,” says the New York Times.

For his part in the crime, ex-WorldCom ceo Bernard Ebbers was sentenced to 25 years in a low-security facility “so relatives and friends who live nearby could visit”.

Judge Barbara S. Jones recommended that Sullivan serve his time in a "minimum-security prison" near his home.

And to prove that justice is blind, under the US law, p2p file sharers who put even one copy of a movie online can be jailed for up to three years.

On top of that, transgressors can be fined $250,000 with penalties applying whether or not any downloading actually took place.

    Punishment should fit the crime:

    $11 000 000 000 – he should get life.

One video file – which really hurts no one except the very rich (read corporate execs and shareholders) and you get 3 years.

Perhaps the concept of communism is not a bad idea?

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Nope. I lived in a communist country, and it sucked. In communism, the powerful still get rich of the backs of the common people. What we need is a constitutional republic like we once had when America was founded.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Communism was an ideal. That was the point I was making. It is very true what you say about how communist states were run. I knew a Romanian who really suffered under the Communist state – but it really was’nt communism, but rather a system that ran a state.

However, the point of communism is a classless society based on ideals where everyone has a fair share….. that is why capitalism sucks so much – the rich fuck the poor in every possible way.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Very. True. This is not what the Constitution envisioned. What you have now in the USA is a fascist (corporations run the government, not the people) government run by Milton Friedman economics coached fundamentalists. ALL fundamentalists are dangerous, because they believe in their ideology even when evidence proves they are wrong.
