Stones rolling into Moncton

p2pnet.net News:- In June, Stones fans living in Moncton in New Brunswick, Canada, were going online, begging the band to play just one more gig as part of their September 3 2005/2006 grand tour.

Now, about 300 people who live near Magnetic Hill, the designated performance area, say they can`t get no satisfaction. But not because they’re clamouring for a repeat performance.

Locals met with organizers at a public meeting, “denouncing the road closures and parking plans that will restrict their movements for the Labour Day weekend,” says the Globe & Mail.

That’s because they’ll need a special pass to access their homes before the barricades go up September 1 and guests will need a concert ticket if they want to visit them, says the story.

“Nobody is happy about being locked in or out of their homes,” Bob Fudge is quoted as saying, and another residents’ committee member, Charles Crossman, warned of possible acts of “civil disobedience”, says the Globe.

Crossman was, “furious when he discovered that guests he has invited to his house that day will have to pay for parking at designated spots if they get into the area at all,” says the CBC, Prince Edward Island. “I have people coming to my house,” he said. “You mean to tell me that my friends have to pay the city of Moncton $15 to come to my house?”

Moncton Mayor Lorne Mitton, who wasn’t at the evening meeting, has vowed to hold an emergency city council meeting Monday if the citizen’s concerns were not resolved, says the CBC, adding that city representatives said they’ll try for better access for residents.

Meanwhile, such was the response to the forthcoming show that organizers were selling an extra 10,000 tickets, bringing the total number of expected attendees to 85,000. And that doesn’t include the thousands who’ll undoubtedly be drawn to Magnetic Hill just to be in the approximate vicinity of the Stones, whether they’ll be at the actual performance, or not.

“Three-quarters of the tickets have been sold to Stones fans outside of New Brunswick and 35 per cent of those tickets were bought by those living outside of Atlantic Canada and from as far away as Vancouver, California and Texas, according to city officials,” adds the CBC.
