"In that sense it is not true p2p, nor do I care for the fakery involved with trying to pass itself off as such to those unsuspecting victims as a true p2p."

Why is Peer Impact not a true p2p?

Anybody that roams the net posting as the group defending Peer Impact does, gives it a bad name simply by the process of constantly hounding and using every oppurtunity to do so. Any one that has to advertise for such a product leaves one with the idea that there is something wrong with the product. Since these Peer Impact trolls seem to be at all major p2p sites, it leaves me with a stronger impression by what is not said and by what is dodged in responces that there is yet again something fishy with the program.

By the responces I have seen at many sites, this is one that won't get my money. There is too much clamour about it from the internet trolls to make it a truely good program. Good programs don't need to be advertised so hard. Those that are good speak for themselves. The bad ones need folks to go pump it up and this is what we are seeing with the Peer Impact. It is also why Peer Impact advocates are running into so much static on the internet when they troll the virtues of the program.

I seriously doubt that they will be able to leave this post alone. It flies contary to what they wish to present and as such will leave challenge in their face to be responded to. Mysteriously all proport not to recieve any sort of compensation, so why are they trying so hard to convince those that have already gotten bitten by other schemes?

Parodies are funny and some of this is funny, but alot of it is incorrect and not really funny. SNL makes fun of the president and a host of other people and sometimes it's funny and sometimes it isn't.

I think it's great that someone took the time and effort to poke fun at Peer Impact.

Hi:

I'm going to give it a couple of days before I post the 'final' result, but I'm really happy with the fact that a lot of people think enough of the site to have actually contributed $ towards keeping it going : )

I haven't received your MO yet, but I'll let everyone who snail-mailed donations know when they arrive. It can take a while for mail to cross the border between the US and Canada : )

Cheers!

Drakes Parody was funny get it right

Unfortunally for p2pnet in my opinion their advertisers interests seem to have clouded their opinion on Peer Impact, do you see similar rants regarding Mashboxx(Blubster) or Peer Response(Morpheus) that will distribute Weed files along side freely traded materials and I'm sure the the search results for paid content on Morpheus will be given preference and be right at the top of the list just like Altnets Gold Files on Kazza .

Could it be that people who post might just post for the fact they read something and aren't peer impact "faithfuls". Who is one minded to think that *gasp* others might have a different opinion who read the articles. Yet if you post in favor or disagree to the criticism, than by god you must be one of the faithfuls. So who is paranoid?

This is HYSTERICAL.

Just as predicted, the trolling "faithful" have come out in droves.
It's as if someone insulted a MAC.

IT was a JOKE ... but,

Whenever I see so many mindlessly champion something
( PeerImpact ) to the point that ANY criticism needs to be
squashed, I start to feel like something is very wrong
with it.

This bashing of the posting of a parody has pushed MY
mind away from PeerImpact, comepletely.

Not the article, the article was funny.

The postings of the rabid faithful is what drove my decision, one I will spread, paranoid bastidge that I am.

I do not believe that people are afraid of Peer Impact, as of more being not understanding of it. Such as the article discussing how Peer Impact is a pyramid scheme when it obviously is not. An intelligent person would know that a pyramid scheme has levels with one person above another. So this person recruits this person, who then trys to recruit people underneath them. In no place does this exist. Peer Impact offers a great new system of trying to reward its users to share. Which is also optional, as you can purchase songs without ever sharing them. But the rewards for sharing are not based on any sort of level, it is just if someone purchases a song and that person recieves a piece if not all. Thats the end, the person does not gain benefit if the person who just bought the song shares it to someone else.

So when posting a story, paraody or not, attempt to get the facts right. At least to maintain your creditibilty. I mean there are even more than this one point that is misleading in the article.

I have a great idea, try being apart of the solution not the problem, I for one would like this debacle of illegal filesharing to reach some sort of peace ant stability. Heres a great chance for peer 2 peer technology to be utilized and have a purpose to use it. Would people be more happy if you just bought a song over the network and shared it to others without some reward. I doubt it.

P2P IS a legitmate technology. It is also changing the face of the music industry for the better. Yes, there are plenty of people in the recording industry that are getting hurt because of this. They are seeing the consequences of putting overpriced, crappy product on the market and dominating the media with their advertising. Peer to peer networking does the exact same thing as a radio and tv station, only it broadcasts content over a network instead of radio waves. Before peer to peer, people could either buy the media from a store, hear it on tv, radio, or from a recording. Now, they have a new choice, they can hear or record it from the Internet. Peer to peer is not piracy, it is broadcasting. It is the entertainment cartels that are the rougues because their crap is poisoning our culture.

Smaller labels and artists cannot get the same sweetheart deals that the big players get when it comes to advertising, so they do not receive any where near the public exposure. Now, the smaller labels can broadcast their music just like the big ones. I believe that this is what really irks the cartels. If the cartels want to compete, then they ought to start turning out decent music and stop bullying
people. As long as they continue to poison cultures with the crap that they currently produce, then they do not deserve and copyright protections (copyrights are supposed to be for works that benefit society). When they stop their bulying and start producing good product, then and only then will I start going back to the record and video stores.

By the way I am 37 years old, not 12 or under like you try to prtray the p2p community. I am also a computer programmer who makes a good living writing open source software. I am glad that Jon runs this site, because it is refreshing to get news that is not pumped out by big business and big government. Yes, it is slanted in many cases, but so is the "news" that comes from the lamestream media.

Yes, it is slanted in many cases, but so is the “news” that comes from the lamestream media.
