DVD Shrink site disappears
p2pnet.net News:- Has DVD Shrink has gone the way of DVD Decrypter? – asks the UK’s Michael on Doom9’s forum.
That’s because the web site has vanished.
So what’s DVD Shrink all about? "Copying a DVD doesn’t get much simpler than this. Put DVD into DVD-ROM or DVD burner," says the DVD Shrink guide. "Choose either either a Full Disk (1:1) copy or a main movie only. It’ll analyze DVD, encode video files , and finally burn a copy of the dvd to DVD±R media. Thus you have a excellent quality dvd copy of your original DVD."
It’s DVD freeware backup software that’s a, "competitor to commercial compressed domain transcoding tools, such as DVD2One, XPRESS, CloneDVD, DVD95Copy and DVD Copy," says AfterDawn. "It has actually more options than most of its commercial counterparts, but it is slightly slower and more difficult to use than most of its competitors – but nevertheless, it is totally free."
You can copy an "entire DVD-9 movie to a single DVD-R using DVD Shrink," says AfterDawn, also saying here, "DVD Shrinks allow the user to select compression level for each video track separately to obtain the desired disc size (which is usually below 4.38GB). It has a built-in decrypter, so there is no need to rip the DVD files on HDD first. The software is capable of producing either an ISO image of the ripped DVD, or a VIDEO_TS folder for further processing, viewing or burning."
Gone, perhaps, but not forgotten – not by Doom9, anyway.
“oh the rumors,” posts Doom9. “I was informed of that 2 days ago but there’s really no reason for speculation.
“The ‘official’ DVD Shrink site was basically a volunteer site that the author endorsed. The author never had anything to do with this site, and it going down has nothing to do with the author or software itself. dvd shrink has no longer been developed for a while now because of personal reasons (Recode and Shrink look very much alike, that’s all I can say), and it’s not like this site going down has any bearing on the future that dvd shrink may or may not have.
“Naturally, DVD Shrink has always been available from my software archive and will remain available right there. There never was much of a need for that official homepage.. the software and guides that were updated with the release of each new version.. my site has offered all that for a long time.“
