Bono lined up for Nobel

p2pnet.net OT News:- British knighthoods have been awarded to the likes of Paul McCartney and Elton John, and now a similar fate could await the Nobel peace prize.

The 2005 prizes will be announced between October 3 and 14 with "Irish U2 rock star Bono or nuclear watchdogs such as IAEA seen as possible winners of the prestigious Peace Prize," says Agence France Presse, quoted in The Local.

"The Peace Prize, the most celebrated of the Nobel honours, will be announced on October 14 in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee."

Bono’s "global push to tackle African poverty" is named as the reason for his nomination, "while the nuclear issue has been in focus with Iran and North Korea stubbornly pursuing their nuclear programmes as the world this year marks the 60th anniversary of the nuking of Hiroshima," says the story, adding:

"Other potential winners include Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, humanitarian organisations that assisted in the December 26 tsunami crisis, and the Indonesian government and Aceh rebels, who recently signed a peace accord ending almost 30 years of fighting," says the story

The Nobel Award has been slipping for some years, so yet again will entertainment reign over more worthy persuits. I’ve given up on having interesting choices over the ones the committe picks, so now I’m just hoping that someone other than an entertainer wins.

    Next up: More entertainment . . .

  2. Reader's Write Says:

They gave a nobel to former US president Carter who did nothing to stop the weapon-race, attacked sovereign south-american countries and failed completely to change the world by legalizing cannabis.
Nobel sucks, there’s even no math nobel prize, and remember Nobel invented dynamite iirc.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

U2 rock star Bono and IAEA in the same breath, huh?

Bono more than anyone else on that list deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, because who has done more to try to eradicate extreme proverty, stop an Aids epademic, and try to bring fair trade to the poorest countries in the world. No one. Have you ever asked yourselves how much time and effort this cause takes him? Yet he never complains, and to date he’s never even cancelled any of his tour dates. He’s not a young man anymore, so you know that he’s got to be tired, yet he soliders on to do anything he can to stop the senseless deaths that are happening EVERY 3 seconds in Africa. No where on earth except Africa would this be tolerated, but this white man isn’t looking at color, he looking at people, and he’s right when he says that the situation in Africa is an emergency, and that extreme proverty needs to be wiped out, and meds for the Aids crisis needs to be available there, and fair trade acts need to be implemented, and the ridicoulous debt needs to be dropped, so the Africans can pull themselves out of this terrible situation and enjoy the life that they been given. It shouldn’t matter where your’e born in this world whether you live or die. So with all the work he’s doing to bring attention to this emergency, tell me who deserves this honor more. NO ONE! That’s who.
    God Bless
    Robyn

do you even have a clue as to how much work bono has done over the last 25 years! do a little research before you assess that he’s just another rock star. i hope he wins!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Bono well deserves the Nobel Prize — I hope he gets it this time: he’s been nominated at least twice before. No one gets as much media attention for the poor as he does. He richly deserves this award, not as a rock star, but a humanitarian.
