Thompson sent off with a bang
p2pnet.net News:- The headline and teaser aren’t p2pnet’s. The first is from the Chicago Tribune and the second, from the Denver Post. But they adequately sum up the gun-loving gonzo-journalist’s last days.
Thompson killed himself with a shot to the head. So his friends decided a fitting way to commemorate his memory would be to fire his cremated remains from a cannon.
Last night, the event took place – thanks to $2.5 million from Johnny Depp, says the Denver Post.
“The ash blast occurred at 8:46 p.m. while a kimono-clad Japanese drum band pounded away,” says the story. “The red, white and blue pyrotechnic show featured more than 30 fireworks missiles exploding into the dark sky, punctuated by three hologram double-thumbed gonzo fists.”
Thompson’s ashes, "were blasted out of a 153-foot monument – 2 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty".
Way to go. Literally.
