None of the source articles indicate this is GPL software, which is what real open source is.

This will be closed source and anyone interested in integrating it will be required to violate the GPL in order to do so. But of course these blatantly false headlines will be the foundation for the next congressional push for laws which further marginalize and strangle real open source software.

After all, according to these idiot tech writer pundits, open source is just being "abstinent".

"Schwartz said he planned to call for a cross-industry collaboration in developing what he argued would be an open and business-friendly approach to the free creation, duplication and distribution of digital content and, "To lay the foundation for the Open Media Common initiative, Sun will immediately share its internal Sun Labs program Project DReaM, what it calls DRM/everywhere available'."

Or, they could simply market the music WITHOUT FREAKING DRM. Wow.. what a concept.

Anyone who takes a look at the GPL knows that it is fundamentally opposed to the idea of DRM because source code must be made easily available to improve upon. Even if this is somehow misconstrued otherwise, the vast majority of developers who get their hands on this code will immediately publish it and tell sun where to stick their out and out publicity grabbing HYPE.

Meanwhile, as a representative of every consumer on the planet, i'd like to "thank" sun for screwing we the people for their own selfish gains, and make no mistake they are only looking out for their own interests, because whatever they develop will be used to screw yet more people out of rights they've traditionally had... such as self determination.
