BTW, I have no need to hide behind the “anonymous” moniker. I just wasn’t going to enroll in a forum when I was already quite tired. My name is sepia and I am easily found in the p2p community forums & a few of the gfx forums as well..

Yeah, I agree, Rush was/is a perfect example.

Funny, I would have imagined the great teacher Obi-Wan would have taught patience and tolerance for others.

It’s said that what we find the most distateful in others is what we dislike in ourselves. Obviously the writer of the tard comment wasn’t autistic, so I guess I’d have to fall back on what I often think to myself:
“You may all be wondering about me because I seem so different. i simply laugh at you, because you are all the same.” No, i don’t believe everyone is the same in their thoughts of this, or at least not so vocal since it is politically incorrect, but if I was that young man (and autistic people are not “retarded” they just live in their own world–a rather pleasant thing I would think–and are often quite intelligent,) I would have been thinking that to myself.

In my beliefs, this simple thing would prove that Obi-Wan is not a very advanced spirit and will have need of a few more life lessons before he can reach his potential. I sincerely hope karma isn’t too harsh with him.

I think it all depends on how loud this guy was laughing, and whether it was having a measurable effect on the whole auditorium.

I don’t think there’s any right or wrong answer to this, which is why this story has gone on so long. And I don’t think the response from people arguing for the manager have done any favours.

People have a right to watch a film in peace. But it’s not as if this was a film that required silence. I mean, say it had been a serious movie and someone had been laughing through it… well I’d veer on the side of the majority.

But a comedy? US viewers make do with canned laughter all the time, it’s not as if added laughter will take away from the experience. It’s a comedy, deal with it.

Here in the United States, the young man would have been covered by a federal law that is strictly enforced and that the ACLU & other service orgs love called the 1992 Americans With Disabilities Act.

The movie theatre could possibly get out of it because they have never taken any federal funding (I assume a theatre wouldn’t), but they could get their cage rattled a bit as an example for their act with him.

and in my opinion, they should.

yeah, i would have found it irritating also, but the “tard” comments were uncalled for, IMHO.

Be careful what ya say, karma has a way of coming back and biting ya in the ass–and it bites hard.
