Verizon, Yahoo Net service
p2pnet.net News:- In a “half the bandwidth at half the price” offer, Verizon and Yahoo are teaming up to offer a lower-priced fast Internet service.
“Users will get Yahoo content with Web access over a digital subscriber line as fast as 768 kilobits per second, New York-based Verizon said in a statement yesterday,” says Bloomberg News.
The $15.00-a-month offer, good in 28 states, “steps up an Internet-access price war among telephone carriers and follows a similar accord between Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo and SBC Communications Inc., the number two high-speed Web provider,” says the story.
The offer matches SBC’s cheapest service and is less than Comcast Corp’s introductory $20, says Bloomberg, quoting UBS AG analyst John Hodulik as saying, ”It appears to be half the bandwidth at half the price. ‘The [Baby] Bells are heavily focused on market share in an effort to protect their local lines.”
Verizon says Yahoo will help beef up its DSL service for all subscribers with $200 worth of premium services annually, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The “twin moves are meant to attract new DSL users and dial-up customers, as well as luring cable modem users,” it says, adding:
“Verizon has an agreement with MSN and will continue to offer its services to its customers. But Verizon made clear it will be pushing the partnership with Yahoo, making it the default provider for new customers.”

It looks to me like SBC is attempting to take over more markets. This company is DANGEROUS!!! I have worked with a company that provided tech support for SBC (”tech support” is lousy). What tech support that was provided is now done in the Phillipeans.
Also, pay very close attention to the fine print in any contract you sign with SBC as a party. You may otherwise find that you have been signed up for “services” which you have no use for and find hard to get cancelled. There are many, many horror stories about people being swindled by this company. Don’t believe me, just do a goole search for the terms SBC fraudulant billing. This type of behaviour is typical of the way cartels operate. FreeWan is a better way to go.
