Lokitorrent wasn't a tracker, it was just a website hosting torrent files from other trackers. So a log entry on lokitorrent proves only that you downloaded a torrent file. You need the log files from the tracker sites to prove you actually started downloading a file and which IP you were downloading from.

Yes, that's true, but it's not the entire picture like I've seen. When there is a small abuse problem, one that's not big enough to legislate against, the government releases too much information to the news in order to make people AWARE of the problem. This is purportedly done to "alert" us to a "huge" group of "lawbreakers" that "we" need to steer clear of.

The information on how the activity is done is supposedly released to the news media so that we will know "what to look for" and who to turn in people in to, for a reward.

In reality, all this information is released to the news media in order to GROW THE PROBLEM TO A LEVEL THAT DEMANDS IT BE ADDRESSED BY LAWMAKERS. The idea is to show/tell many many people how it's all done, and THEN, when those people start copying what they read/heard about, there is a much bigger and less obscure problem for the government to legislate on.

This same method has been used for many years in many ways. Probably the most memorable area that this tactic was recently employed is on the mostly harmless bronchial dialator drug called Ephedrine or it's base called Ephedra. Almost NOBODY knew it could be turned into a kind of speed, much less knowing that it was done by mixing it with other cleaning supplies & "cooking" it down. THEN, the government released the whole process to the news media and VIOLA!!! We have an epidemic of people making speed from Ephedrine.

Now we have to outlaw the common sale of a USEFULl over the counter medication (Hmmm... maybe the pharmecuetical companies were in on this one too; since the prescription meds that do the same job cost 10x more than the ephedrine did.) They did the same thing with American Ginseng. It is illegal to grow it for harvest OR to harvest it in the wild, in every state where it grows.

They use the same method with the handguns that many Americans posess to protect their family from criminals. Then they tell us that the criminal won't be able to buy guns if they are illegal to own!!

COME ON PEOPLE!! WAKE UP!!! CRIMINALS DO NOT OBEY THE LAWS!!! IT IS ALREADY ILLEGAL FOR CRIMINALS TO BUY GUNS!!! Making guns illegal only makes criminals out of those who believe in our constitution AS IT WAS ORIGINALLY WRITTEN & INTERPRETED.

Guns are supposedly the cause of a "huge" number of child deaths, BUT, they never point out that more children die in the bathroom every year than die by handguns. The same is true of the kitchen, and of the family car. Maybe we should just outlaw EVERYTHING so that cops have the right to go into EVERY HOME IN THE LAND JUST TO "MAKE SURE" that these citizens are not harming themselves or anyone else.

I don't know about anyone else, but any time the news media OR the government comes knocking on the door with lopsided statistics and says it is going to "help" me, I'm gonna grab my mp3's, my guns, and my ammo, & HEAD FOR THE HILLS!!!

1. loki had a tracker, which would be more interesting to the mpaa than just registration logs - but you never know what BS they'll come up with.

2.if you read the original article, they say that loki logs were not used in this action.

3. the right thing to do? so if you gave them - or any tracker/website - money, that was the right thing to do?

or

so i suppose begging for money and stealing it like loki did was "the right thing to do"?

look, filesharing is free and must remain that way. people who run trackers know that it costs money before they start it up. if they aren't prepared to pay for it themselves - including any legal fees - they shouldn't have a tracker at all.

This kind of attitude is really shitty. People tried to support LokiTorrent because that was how they perceived that they could strike at the MPAA and RIAA. It wasn't stupidity.

I don't download movies, myself, but I was registered at LokiTorrent. It was the right thing to do.

How much of this is just more Cartel propoganda? Just because your IP was logged at a tracker or a website, that doesn't prove you were sharing or downloading, any more than having a bag with "swag" on the side proves you are a gentleman jewel thief.

This smacks more of the constant campaign of lies and disinformation the Cartels are famous for.

In this case anyone who has ever downloaded a movie, may as well continue to do so. They could be 'hung' in future anyway.
serves people right for being so fucking stupid as to use their real details to register on websites - always use bugmenot!
This is a stupid statement - Who gives a damn about your registration details. They got your IP address - you get owned - simple.

Since BT makes no attempt to "hide" the user's IP address, these are being gleaned from the logs. So you don't have to "register" your details, when you start downloading, it automatically logs your IP and activities...

Sometimes I wonder about all this. Just like the posters above, I never knew about d/ling until it was splashed all over the media. Didn't take much looking around to find it either.

Is this not done on purpose to set up for more income for the cartels? Sure seems like it is intentional to me.

I finally used bittorrent. No firewall, no ip blocker, no security in that sense. Of course, what I am after won't be a concern should they find my ip. I only want linux.

I started the Napster thing long ago because I heard about it on the news too. It's really amazing that the recording industry shot themselves in the foot by not leaving what was apparently some college kids' experiment alone. They got publicity for a "competitor" and that doesn't work into anyone's business model too well.

Years ago, back when the napster thing was going on... I had never heard of downloading music through the internet!
But, through watching the news, I found out that I actually could download music on the internet!
In a MAJOR way, the trouble they started over it, was the start of file sharring for a LOT of people... Without the feible attempt to spread fear over the news... People like me would have never found out about filesharring!

I'm sure the reason they numbers of people filesharring is still going up BECAUSE they are still trying to make such a big deal out of it, and use the news to tell people!

Its really not that surprising... lol They will be their own demise!
