BBC to simulcast shows online

p2pnet.net News:- The BBC, Britain`s national broadcaster, says it`s planning to let viewers watch shows online for a week after they`ve been shown on TV

It received a “wake-up call” about the demand for new technology in March when the first episode of the new Doctor Who was leaked on to the internet, director of TV Jana Bennett is quoted as saying.

An episode of the new Dr Who series showed up on the Net three weeks before it was slated for BBC One.

A BBC spokesman said the corporation was aiming to simulcast a channel permanently but would restrict it to UK viewers only, says the Beeb.

“These plans are subject to the approval of the board of governors and the resolution of rights clearance issues on content like music and imported shows,” he said.

Trust the BBC to be leading the field with new media technologies.

The BBC is almost enough to make me a patriot. Our one great institution. They let John Peel broadcast for 30+ years, they’ve led the way with digital radio, they even sorted out digital terrestrial TV after various ITV companies completely screwed up, they pissed off big music by giving away non-drm mp3s of Beethoven, they get as close as is legally possible to offering free downloads of all their radio shows, and now this. All for £10.99 a month license fee.
