although the summer months used to be slow, up until a couple of years ago, studios and cable stations have been pumping out more and more new shows in the summer and i haven’t seen any signs of people leaving BT. there has been a steady increase in the number of new shows and proportionately, a steady and strong increase in downloaders for these programs.

as far as movies, this summer hasn’t seen many must-have films in the BT networks, but that doesn’t mean that all of the new films have disappeared from BT, nor does it mean that people don’t want what’s being offered. the new films still get the most downloaders, as do some of the earlier films of this year, especially after they’ve just been released on dvd.

i’ve only ever tried edonkey/emule – or whatever it’s called – a few times several years ago and i hated it. i don’t like networked programs like these or grokster anymore. they’re unreliable because you can never be sure what you’ll get until the download is complete, because of misnamed files, spywares, and trojans. BT is the best, especially because the uploaders are generally honest and trustworthy in naming their files, as well as being diligent in keeping malware out of the system.

as far as older shows, this summer has seen a marked increase in the number of older shows being regularly seeded in BT – whether from dvd rips or tv capture – in single and multi-file uploads.

and requests for older series are mostly filled without a hassle. this is often because quality tv shows – dumped by a network after only a season – or less – in favor or crap reality shows, get picked up by stations in other countries which will show the entire season, or series which go to dvd a couple of months after being cancelled. shows like wonderfalls and firefly are two good examples of this.

since the MPAA claims that the bulk of their profits are made from dvd sales (and most performers and technicians never get paid royalties for them anyway), the cartels have only themselves to blame. first, they need to stop producing crappy, unwanted remakes of classic films and tv-to-big screen films. even their “so-called stars” are ridiculously illiterate. Jessica Simpson recently claimed that her character Daisy Duke, in “The Dukes of Hazzard” (another crappy tv show made into an even crappier movie) is “iconish”. ICONISH????? she means “iconic”, perhaps! but an icon of what? stupidity? yes, i believe so. what an idiot! studios: use educated, trained actors and actresses in original quality productions, and box office and dvd sales will increase.

i’m quite sure that when the new fall tv season begins, BT will keep it’s titke as the leading p2p program. and even if cachelogic is correct – i don’t believe their lamestream calculations anyway – the numbers will turn have turned around by the end of september.
