Google Earth as virtual spy
p2pnet.net News:- Google Earth is cool. No doubt about it. The satellite-based mapping service gives users overhead shots of buildings and landscapes and Google boasts the service is a “3D interface to the planet”.
And that’s what worries South Korea. Is it also a free eye-in-the-sky spy service?
“South Korean newspaper reports in recent days have noted that the Google Earth service provides images of the presidential Blue House and military bases in the country, which remains technically at war with communist North Korea,” says the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “North Korean sites such as its main nuclear research facility at Yongbyon are also displayed on the service, which was launched in June.”
A South Korean presidential spokesman says the office means to raise concerns with the US authorities, adds the story.
(KH) reconnaissance satellites, often used for military purposes,. have been circling the Earth for more than three decades.
