iTunes - v - MusicMatch
"As a valued Musicmatch customer and iPod user, we want to alert you to a serious software conflict caused by iTunes for Windows," says Musicmatch in an e-mail to users.
"Apple iTunes for Windows prevents Musicmatch Jukebox from working with the iPod by deleting critical files used by Musicmatch."
The message, which then tells users how to uninstall iTunes and resume using Musicmatch, "is in response to Apple’s move to supplant Musicmatch with its own iTunes software, which it released last month," says CNET News.com’s Ina Fried here.
"Upon installing iTunes, customers are no longer able to synchronize their iPods with Musicmatch."
MusicMatch suggestions for peaceful coexistence, says Britain’s The Registerhere, include the following advice:
- Disconnect the iPod from your computer if it is still connected
- Double click on ‘My Computer’
- Double click on ‘Control Panel’
- Open ‘Add or Remove Programs’
- Select and uninstall ‘iTunes’
Back to Fried, "Apple and Musicmatch were partners when the Mac maker first took the iPod to Windows, using Musicmatch’s jukebox software to synchronize with the music player device," she says.
"Not long thereafter, Apple revealed plans to adapt iTunes for Microsoft’s Windows operating system."
When that happened, "we knew that we would be competing with them," Fried quotes Musicmatch spokeswoman Jennifer Roberts as saying.
"We expected the customer could make the choice, not Apple."
An Apple representative was not, apparently, immediately available for comment.

I tried to uninstall iTunes thru add/remove and the piece of crap wont uninstall. It says it’s done with the “maintenance” in iTunes. When you close that, iTunes is still showing in add/remove prgs as well as a second entry for iTunes that does not have a option to remove… OH YEAH, APPLE IS BETTER THAN WINDOWS…Like so much crap…. anybody got a clue on how to get this “thing” out of here?

Yes…. when you are uninstalling iTunes, make sure you ‘end the process’ of anything to do with iTunes in the Task Manager window. i.e, Itunes, iTunesHelper and iPod…….. basiclly anything to do with iTunes and iPod! I Think then your case will be solved…… Worked for me!

My Itunes has gone wrong and I am trying to uninstall so that I can start again. When I go through Control Panel\Add or Remove Programs and select Itunes\Change or Remove, it comes up with the note that there is already a later version of the program on the computer so it cannot continue.can anyone tell me how to get round this? I am deffinitely not a computer expert so please explain in simple terminology.

ranting about how you dont think apple is “better” than windows makes you look awfully stupid when it’s windows you are having problems with.
Regardless.. Unix eats both windows and OSX.. oh wait.. osx IS unix. duh.
