Altnet pushes online TV ad

With the horrifying news that TV commercials are coming to the Net comes an equally horrifying announcement from Kazaa and Grokster (Yep – Grokster is affiliated with the loathsome Altnet) that they’re generously offering to allow you to download a TV ad.

And it’s FREE!!! Yes, folks, FREE!!!

They figure you’ll want it because it features William Shatner and Leonard Nimo

wow

It’s for a company called Priceline that’s offering an airline ticketing service and is making a bid to get its name online.

Instead of being forced to watch the ad on TV, Altnet and Priceline want surfers to download it. Altnet is counting on peoples’ curiosity being powerful enough to drive them into actually doing that.

This will allow Altnet to claim it’s an effective online marketing vehicle, which in turn will help to keep it motoring. Whether or not anyone actually uses the service advertised is almost beside the point.

This doesn’t have a lot to do with p2p file sharing, of course, but that’s a mere detail and, “Altnet is excited that Priceline.com is leveraging our platform,” gushes Altnet’s senior vp, Christian von Burkleo.

Altnet is currently being delisted by the American Stock Exchange for its failure to meet minimum stock market financial requirements.
