Driving into the future

p2p news / p2pnet:- “Inside there’s an interface port for multimedia applications and the back seat has multiple configurations to aid versatility,” says New Zealand Autocar.

Cool. But inside what?

The Mazda Sassou, “a small, lightweight, 3-door hatchback powered by a turbocharged, 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre Direct Injection gasoline engine,” says Autonet.ca. “An engine-stop feature automatically shuts down the engine at full stops, in order to save fuel and curb emissions.”

And it uses a USB stick as a key and an interface port for “programming the hard disc drive conceived for the concept”.

The pic caption says the cockpit [note - cockpit ; ] “is a combination of dials and buttons, replacing traditional levers and switches”.

so…uh…every time you stop at a stop sign or red traffic signal, the car shuts off and you have to restart it?

    gee, that’s bright.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

That’s not much of a problem out here in California as few folks stop at the sighs anyway. Is it different where you are?

  3. Reader's Write Says:

yes. there are traffic cameras everywhere.

and also, laws are very strict and 99% of the population - not an exaggeration - obeys the laws, especially traffic laws. it’s even illegal to have even a spot of rust on your car. if you do, and a cop sees it, you’ll get a nice big fine to pay.

Catflap Which one of the Police States you live in? Pennsylvania?

  5. Reader's Write Says:

i don’t live in a dictatorship like the PSA. i live in a country where laws - written in layperson’s terms so all can understand - are adhered to willingly. a country with direct democracy and not outdated electorate college systems. a country where the people vote on every law.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

    Afghanistan?

  7. Reader's Write Says:

    yes, afghanistan.

    this discussion is finished now.

The car starts itself, you won’t have to do anything but press down on the gas pedal (if it works like my Toyota Prius). In fact the Prius starts and stops the engine all the time, even when moving.

It doesn’t seem too bright to me to leave the engine burning gas when you aren’t moving, or you’re coasting down a hill. This is a painless way to save gas.
