Oz downloads outsell singles

p2p news / p2pnet:- Paid-for downloads of Sony BMG songs are now outselling CD singles in Australia, says Gavin Parry, the company`s Oz general manager of digital services.

“The internet has been quite slow, and we have had a fair bit of competition from the peer-to-peer services,” the Sydney Morning Herald has him saying in a considerable understatement.

In fact, the p2p networks continue to totally swamp the corporate sites, including iTunes, Apple`s iPod promo software which is often quoted as a going concern in the mainstream media.

“Apple Australia yesterday refused to comment on a launch date for its iTunes music store, which would allow the legion of Australians who own iPods to legally purchase songs, rather than rip, burn and swap,” says the story;

In fact, it would allow a relatively few people to pay an exorbitant $1 (US) or more for the downloads. And even this amount will soon go up when the Big Four record label cartel boosts its wholesale prices even further.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

    I would gladly pay a dollar for a download under the following conditions:

    1. The quality of the music is the same as I would get on a CD.

    2. The music would come in a format (mp3) that would allow me to use it as I see fit.

    3. The file last as long as I have it in my possession regarless if I pay a subscription fee.

    4. The cartels produce a worthwhile product and stop producing or promoting crap.

    6. Quit bullying filesharers and the competition.

    I believe in the free enterprise and will support it provided that I get my money’s worth. I will gladly support the arts and sciences that are beneficial to mankind. Until this day comes, I will continue to do as I do now. I will vote against the cartels with my wallet. Rather than give the money to the cartels, I give it to p2pnet.net. Cyberscan
