In a somewhat reversal of commonly-held belief, "the big lie" was a term originally coined by Hitler (not about Hitler) to describe the US WWI war propaganda, created under the direction of the Creel Commission, which was credited with being vastly superior to the relatively crude German propaganda, and one of the chief reasons that Germany lost WWI. America's leading propaganda scientist was Edward Bernays, himself a Jew, which along with a high concentration of Jews in the field of 'persuasive psychology' (this included not only war propaganda, but also public relations and advertising techniques) certainly must have got Hitler to take notice.

Josef Goebbels is often credited in the mainstream media with being a master propagandist, but in fact he was an admirer (and imitator) of existing US propaganda techniques that had been developed, tested, and applied ever since their codification during the WWI-era Creel Commission. It was Americans like Bernays who had developed many of the propaganda methods that Goebbels is often credited with.

George Bush effectively employs many of these same 'textbook' tried-and-true propaganda techniques, such as copious use of fear-mongering as a tool of persuasion. His "big lie" technique worked well also, as in the case of the often-repeated Saddam-Osama alliance; although it was no secret that the two leaders were really ideologically-irreconcilable enemies, the claim took root in the minds of the gullible US public.

It's interesting that although the science of modern propaganda methods is openly available for all to see and study, the vast majority of people seem to be totally unaware that they're being manipulated - even by simple boilerplate propaganda methods!
