1st commercial BPL trial
p2p news / p2pnet:- Hobart, Tasmania, has become the site of the world’s first large-scale broadband over power line commercial trial, says ZDNet Australia.
ISP Datafast is partnered by Aurora Energy and Mitsubishi Electric, starting with a 12Mbps service in Hobart, and, “This is not a technical trial – the technology works,” Datafast ceo Simon Ehrenfeld is quoted as saying.
“This is the first stage of a commercial roll out,”.
Ehrenfeld says for the trial period, BPL reseller TasTel is initially offering 256Kbps, 1Mbps and 4Mbps packages at AU$15, $30 and $80 per month respectively.
“Each plan includes a download allocation, with extra data charges priced at 10c/Mb,” says ZDNet, and there’s also a synchronous AU$40 per month 1Mbps package for people wanting to host their own sites.
