Suprnova: A New Beginning
p2p news / p2pnet:- Craig Lester over in the UK has been emailing tips to p2pnet for some time now and we’ve finally persuaded him to stop emailing and to start writing. heh
Here’s his first contribution >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Remember suprnova.org, the big dump site that operated until last year December? Its closure inspired considerable controversy, much of which was purportedly due to MPAA/RIAA pressure on Sloncek, the site’s founder and admin.
Sloncek, in an answer to Slyck.com about the closure, said, suprnova.org was more like a hobby that took most of my free time away. And now with current situation, there`s too much pressure and I don`t have the time for it.
However, within 12 hours, eXeem was being punted with links to the eXeem project site, and this led to recriminations in the p2p communities that money was the motive for Sloncek`s move.
eXeem was a notorious application that had Cydoor ad-ware/spyware bundled to it. This contributed to the failure of an application Sloncek had hoped would succeed.
Many in the p2p community will long remember the sellout of suprnova.org. Whether this was a sellout or merely someone who saw an opportunity is debatable.
Well the news is this: according to Sloncek. he’s resurrected the site.
Do you still remember those good old days, when you came to SuprNova.org, just because you did not have anything to do and you knew you would find something of your interest there?” – he posts here. “Then, I must say I have good news and a bad news. Well it’s mostly good news, and I will get right to the point…
“First the bad news. SuprNova.org will not return in it’s old form like we used to know it a year ago. Those days of SuprNova.org are over forever, incase anybody did not know that yet. The good news is that SuprNova.org will return, just in a different form. From now on, SuprNova.org will focus on the P2P world.
SuprNova II will focus on the world of p2p, says Sloncek, pointing out that he’s created a new forum with, at the time of writing, 421 members.
And in a spirit of reconciliation, he has this to say:
This time around I plan on correcting the image of me that got a bit broken with my previous actions. A lot of you got a bad impression of me after SuprNova.org closed. I would like to say, my intentions were never to do something bad for the community although some of you thought like that. I am sorry for that and I will correct it.
I was able to to contact Sloncek with a few questions. His answers were short, but to the point.
p2pnet.net: Suprnova.org was a big dump site. It was probably the biggest on the Web. Why did you shut down the site and go the way of eXeem?
Sloncek: The site was shut down because I did not want to run it anymore. I will not reveal further details on it. I went on with eXeem, because i thought it could bring something better to P2P…
p2pnet.net: eXeem was not quite the success that you hoped? What do you think contributed to this?
Sloncek: eXeem was not a success because of a wrong marketing and ad-ware in the program.
p2pnet: Why did you decide to go the route of adding ad-ware to eXeem?
Sloncek: Because the costs of the development were so high.
p2pnet: What do you hope to achieve with the rebirth of suprnova.org?
Sloncek: I hope to build the community that there used to be once… Also, my wish is to make a complete portal of everything regarding P2P… Maybe something else too… Depends were users will lead me. This time around, we do it like users say.
p2pnet: You are sounding very reconciliatory on suprnova.org. What would you like to say to the p2p community out there?
Sloncek: Well, I’d like to say that regarding what they think how bad of a person I am, my intentions were always good. I never meant to hurt the community even if they thought so.
p2pnet: Finally, what do you see in the future of p2p. Which direction do you think the entire file sharing environment is going to move?
Sloncek: I think that the whole entertainment is going to switch to file sharing and change it in to more Pay Per Download or whatever….
Only time will tell as to whether or not suprnova.org will become a success or not. But a lot of people within the p2p community felt hard done by over the manner in which suprnova.org closed. Memories linger.
Loki Torrent anyone?

is this for real? i get a blank page from the link and to suprnovadotorg.
if it’s not going to be a dump site, i don’t believe it will be very popular.
the staff and members moved on to snarf and other places which are very popular. suprnova isn’t needed anymore, unless it is a dump site. this is where the members will want to lead him. will he follow? will he be a man of his word and follow where he’s led? his history would paint a different picture of the man.
and if he’s trying to repair his credibility, he should answer the question publicly: why did he close it down, and why can’t he speak about it?
he found out – just as loki did – that you can’t mess with p2pers. loyalty is earned over time. credibility is earned over time.
he said when it closed that it will NEVER come back. NEVER. now he wants it back because exeeem sucked, he’s licking his woulds, and is trying to invite people to a party that has no cake and ice cream?
how about some humble pie and explain yourself publicly and honestly and completely? you want loyalty? that’s the first step to getting it.

hehe. You wrote “big dump”.
Good interview. Sloncek may believe that P2P will become pay p2p but I don’t think the cretins in the entertainment industries can eliminate dark nets and all open source P2P networks.

Looks promising but p2pnet will still be my number one source for p2p news.

Suprnova.org was Suprnova.org up till dec 2004. Now even though the url might be the same, its not Suprnova.org anymore, it will be just another p2pnet website wannabe, anyone remember respectp2p.org (the admin of sharereactor.com) opened up this website as a forum also, still I believe it has not attained the same traffic, that sharereactor.com had in its heyday!
September 14th, 2005 at 4:17 pm
Of course not. Its like comparing apples to oranges. A link dump site will obviously have a lot more traffic than a p2p discussion forum.
Even a large p2p forum like http://www.p2pforums.com or http://www.p2pconsortium.com won’t get the traffic of a tracker site.
My personal opinion is that sloncek thought he could make some money, it didn’t work out, so now hes back to try and rebuild what he gave up.
He may get some newer peeps that don’t know the history, but his former community has found greener pastures and are doin’ quite well on their own. Loyalty and trust are hard to earn and easy to lose.

And the P2P community doesn’t like sellouts, like mr. Preston.
You have killed suprnova with eXeem. Don’t expect things to repair themselves so easily, Andrej.

what he really means:
i can treat people like shit and it wont matter because im gettin paid! oh wait. hey no. im sorry. come back. i need money! shit i was making good money off suprnova and thought i could make even MORE with exeem and some spyware! please come back to my site. please!
screw suprnova. it WAS good till he fucked it all up.

Commercial p2p may go the way of pay to peer but Darnnets will always exist, but main stream filesharing will probably go the direction of pay per download or some collective licincing subscription model .

In my mind there are issues with money taken as a war chest for the purpose of fighting the RIAA. There are also issues with the logs turned over with the settlement. While logs get massive and are often deleted several times over the course of a day, someone had to have their ips on the current log.
Once the trust is gone, it’s gone. While Sloncek may have had a good thing with the suprnova and its traffic; he hasn’t displayed the kind of integrity I would expect and demand of a webmaster. I don’t stay where I don’t feel I don’t get that. I would be very uneasy going to this man’s website with the past that is hanging over him. Next bind that came up would likely see him chunking the logs to the **AA’s as a settlement and I want no part of that.
It is hard to gain trust, certainly on the internet; it is even easier to lose it by misdeeds. I for one won’t be showing up there as I would not feel comfortable at his site. His past actions have shown what he is made of.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Screw suprnova and Sloncek, so many better alternatives are available now anyway. For instance this great site. How do you feel about the competition (if you can call it that ) Jon?
September 14th, 2005 at 8:16 pm
I agree.
Beat it, Andrej, you’ll never get back what you burned up with eXeem.
SuprNova was good, but eXeem ruined it all. Don’t expect things to get better for you. I’ll do anything I can to make sure you don’t get any success with your suprnova revival, as you don’t deserve it. GFY.
September 14th, 2005 at 8:20 pm
I agree completely.

both yall are right. there is no need for people like this to be involved in the scene. Honestly if he sold us out once what stops him from just getting as much inside information on whats happening and then selling it to the feds or other companies to pursue lawsuits.
People have to stop this guy from being anywhere near anyone who knows about anything piracy related. I mean now he wants to be in the p2p scene? honestly this guy is pirating for different reason then 99% of us are..
sharing is caring.. stop selling your shit.. straight up.. your just as bad as the companies out there charging 1500-5000 per software. You just sell what is not yours..
and fyi: he shut his site down because he was paid to. People from eXeem wouldnt see it fit to continue running suprnova.org while eXeem was released.. and time in between.. was only attention seeking. He is full of tricks.. i would watch these fuckers..
atleast loki was straight about things..
September 16th, 2005 at 1:02 pm
“atleast loki was straight about things..”
*******************************************
loki is no better than sloncek.
right. stealing $40,000+, as well as handing over all logs and never puting up a fight or explaining anything. never showing where the money went. no accountability. just disappearing with all the cash.
yeah, that’s straight up.
i hope you gave him a lot of money.
