‘I vant to be alone’
p2pnet OT news:- “I vant to be alone.”
That’s a quote film buffs will recognize. It’s attributed to Greta Garbo, the famous Swedish-born star of the silent movies and first Hollywood talkies who retired when she was only 36.
“Garbo never married, though she had a much-publicized relationship with her silent film co-star John Gilbert,” says Who2, going on:
“Garbo was irritated by the famous quote attributed to her, and reportedly told friends, ‘I never said, ‘I want to be alone.’ I only said, ‘I want to be left alone.’ There is a world of difference’.”
Tomorrow, Sweden celebrates the Garbo centenary with exhibitions and film festivals, says Agence France Presse.
More than six decades after Garbo gave up acting, “Swedes still revere her and are flocking to the film nights dedicated to her.” it says.
The pic?
In the Spring of 1923, “Greta and another classmate, Mona Martenson, are selected by the school to audition for noted Swedish film director Mauritz Stiller,” says Oliver’s timeline. “Both girls get parts in his upcoming film, ‘The Saga of Gosta Berling’.”

the night before this was posted, i watched a documentary on garbo. i think it said that the quote for wanting to be alone/left alone is from the movie “Grand Hotel”, which later came to characterise ms. garbo attitude about her private life – basically that she didn’t want – or see the need – in being photographed in private for public consumption.
