Wanted: garage hackers

p2pnet OT news:- Here’s another OT item, kinda, and you can blame Tony for this ; )

But it IS appropriate, thanks largely to Dick, George W and their friends and associates.

p2pnet is based on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada, and here, gas prices are rocketting to the extent that it’s fast reaching a point where making a trip of more than a few miles means carefully weighing the finances to see if it’s affordable.

Eventually, fossil fuels of all kinds will have to be abandoned in favour of using the wind and the waves and the sun and who knows what else, once we’ve gone beyond keeping the corporations fat and happy.

“Like I said in my comment to the article, Web-like, broadband TV, the cartels are going to try to take over ISP’s so that they can regulate information flow,” says a Reader’s Write. “There is another article about the cartels sending Cease and Desist ‘Orders’ to peer to peer program coders. Things are exactly on target. The cartels are driving people to innovate like never before.

“Hopefully, before long, the cartel’s price gouging at the petrol stations will cause some garage hacker to come up with a cheap way to dramatically increase fuel efficience or else produce affordable fuel. If we decide to depend on someone in the government-cartel alliance to do this, it will NEVER get done in this generation.”

Enter Tony.

“If you drive a vehicle that runs on diesel, check this out,” he says in response to the first comment post. “Funny how it doesn’t seem to be getting much press, in spite of the spiraling prices of petroleum based products isn’t it?”

“This” is flower-power taken to the nth degree. We have no idea if it works, but one thing is for sure: the current methods don’t unless, of course, you’re somehow associated with one or more of the fuel conglomerates.

Make your own biodiesel, says the site.

“Anybody can make biodiesel. It’s easy, you can make it in your kitchen - and it’s BETTER than the petro-diesel fuel the big oil companies sell you. Your diesel motor will run better and last longer on your home-made fuel, and it’s much cleaner - better for the environment and better for health. If you make it from used cooking oil it’s not only cheap but you’ll be recycling a troublesome waste product. Best of all is the GREAT feeling of freedom, independence and empowerment it will give you.”

There are at least three ways to run a diesel engine on bio-power, using vegetable oils, animal fats or both, it says, and “All three work with both fresh and used oils.”

* Use the oil just as it is - usually called SVO fuel (straight vegetable oil);
* Mix it with kerosene (paraffin) or diesel fuel, or with biodiesel;
* Convert it to biodiesel.

Then you get chapter and verse on how to do it.

Is this for real? We don’t know, but we thought the least we could do was pass it along.

Maybe YOU know whether it’s worth a shot or not.

Cheers!

PS - Does anyone know of similar ways to run petrol engines?

Something you think we should know? tips[at]p2pnet.net

For short hauls, electric cars are a safe and clean alternative.

Of course ideally we want hydrogen based propulsion systems. That way you swap a tank of petrol for a tank of plain water. And we all know water is cheap :)

I honestly can’t see why we don’t have hydrogen cars already, i mean the technology has been there for a long time (nasa has been using it for decades). Could it be the oil cartels are trying to prevent this. One could imagine that if everyone decided to go with clean free hydrogen cars, those fat cats would be out of a job.

I suppose then they would start increasing the prices of water :(

What? Blame me?! LOL ok ok yeah fair enough. I just wanted to point out that the link i gave was just the first one i came across in a single search on the net for “biodiesel”. There’s a lot more than just one site.

I’ve heard about it before a few years back on a slightly non-mainscream radio station. Back then the claim was that the guy who invented the diesel engine intended it to run on biodiesel from the word go. The petrol companies apparently didn’t like that idea and created their own petroleum based diesel.

There is a lot more websites out there about biodiesel, but i can’t verify that it’s not a hoax. So unless you’re prepared to blow up your engine, i suggest you don’t try it. Of course if anyone out there knows whether or not it’s for real, i’m sure we’d all like to know more.

I might have to see if i can’t convert my lil 4 cyl corolla to diesel soon. It’s only got a 40 litre tank, but we’re paying $1.30 per litre down here. From 80-90cents per litre at the beginning of the year! Some guys reckon it might get to $2 or $3 over the next few years!

I think the only type of biodiesal energy the cartels would allow would be rickshaws.I’m pretty sure anyone in the usa who found a way to make a simple and cheap homemade way to run a car without the oil companies complete control would get smacked down by the goverment.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

no clue why ‘rickshaws’ is made into a link. I meant the little carts pulled by people, like a taxi.

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Biodiesel is for real. There are many co-ops and clubs which promote it and/or produce it. Washington State is actively driving to make it a major industry (using canola, most likely). Tens of millions of gallons of it are produced each year in the Midwest (mostly using soybeans), with more facilities coming online every week.

What you have to be careful about is the distinction between true biodiesel (processed from the original or waste oils) and veggie oil fuel (SVO - straight veggie oil, and WVO - waste veggie oil, such as from KFC fryers). Many media folk use the terms interchangeably, but SVO/WVO requires significant modifications to your vehicle, while true biodiesel requires little change (more on older cars).

Some references for it being real:
    http://www.nwbiodiesel.org/
    http://www.seattlebiodiesel.com/
    http://www.pugetsoundcleancities.org/State_Incentives_Biofuels.htm

  6. Reader's Write Says:

My dad, over here in the UK, has been using biodiesel for several years. However, he only uses it as a suppliment to diesel bought from the pump. I think he uses about 5-10% with the normal fuel and says that that is enough to make the engine run smoother and more efficiently.

Unfortunately we don’t really have the resources to produce our own and getting hold of it usually involves travelling quite a long way, and so he is limited to buying several containers full when we go on holiday.

Apparently there are some companies selling biodiesel on a larger scale nearer to where we live but they don’t allow people, not even their workers, to buy it at the pump in as smaller quantities as is used for personal use.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

Cool, thanks. Might have to look for any local suppliers in Oz, and see what it’d cost to convert my lil 4 cyl corolla to diesel.

  8. Reader's Write Says:

To keep the government from smacking down a good idea such as a cheap fuel, the concept for its production must be posted on the p2p nets, the web, and other places where the public can get the information despite the efforts of the government and cartels.

  9. Reader's Write Says:

    Boston style that is.

Because of special interest money in Washington, we are going the way of the Romans; Too much power in too little hands is dangerous. Is this democracy? How are we to innovate to another industrial or internet re-volution when we cannot even stop the flow of foreign oil into pockets of the recent robber barons?

Is this behaviour what made us (US) so great and number 1 in the world in under 200 years, when other countries haven’t made it to the top 3 in 3,000+ years?

  10. Reader's Write Says:

I could not agree with you more…..

When someone asks you what you think the U.S. Constitution means ask them, “If you have just fought a long and hard war against the greatest military power of the time and won your freedom, what would you want it to mean?” I have been wanting to see the second “Boston Tea Party” for quite some time. It is not going to happen as long as people do not get off their asses and take action. Americans can restore their freedoms nonviolently if they decided to stick together.

However, that is not going to happen because the government keeps the people divided into 2 major camps. The press calls these camps “liberal” (usually “Democrat”) or “conservative” (usually “republican”). One side of the Party (now republican) gets into office and runs a corrupt government until people get fed up. The people then massively vote for the other side of the party. When this other side of the party gets into office, they also screw the people, and once again the people get fed up, and the cycle repeats.

What Americans need to do is find their moral compass and quit depending on the government-cartel alliance to continue to provide for their needs. Americans need to outsource the cartels and politicians to more favorable means such as self service (where possible). Most Americans have no idea of how to produce their own food or obtain their own water. Most Americans buy their food and water from some company or government. When governments and cartels control food and water distribution, they control the poulation.

    1. When people start producing their own food and start obtaining water without the aid of big companies and government, the cartel-government alliance will lose about half of their power. Once these needs are met, people can then have a way to force the governments to obey the Constitution.

    2. People need to go to thr polls and vote. They need to STOP voting for those in the Democrat-Republican party and vote en-mass for memners of the Libertarian, Constitution, and other political parties. Until that happens, our government will continue to be filled with the same corrupt political hacks we have today. To tell you the truth, there is only one member of the U.S. House of Representatives that is worthy to keep is job, and that is Ron Paul of Texas.

    3. Whenever possible, people need to pay their taxes, fines, fee, and levies with rolled pennies. Each roll should have the name and address of the person payer on them so that that the person accepting the payment will not have an excuse to refuse payment.

    4. We need massive freedom and anticorruption demonstrations in every major city. I am talking about Viet-Nam era demonstrations. People should be non-violent yet disruptive in order to force the government to obey Constitutional limits.

    5. People should also help one another in times of need. The recent government fiasco with hurricane Katrina shows just how incompetent the government at all levels is when it comes to administering aid or charity. Aid or charity is the responsibility od the people and congregations, not government. If people do not step up to take care of the needy, then the government is forced to intervene, and that leads to waste, incompetence, fraud, higher taxes, and less freedom for everyone.

    6. People should be allowed to publically acknowledge the Creator if they so choose as long as they do not force others to practice their religion. The so called “separation of church and state” amendment in the U.S. Constitution does not exist! What it says is that the government cannot FORCE or PROHIBIT people from practicing their religion. (1st Amendment).

    7. Poeple should also remember that RESPONSIBILITY COMES WITH RIGHTS AND FREEDOM. BE RESPONSIBLE. Until people step up and do what is needed, we will continue our slide into tyranny and eventually genocide.
