Microsoft buys ID company

p2p news / p2pnet:- Bill and the Boyz have acquired Canadian ID management partner Alacris in a move to bolster security efforts, says CNET News.

“Ottawa-based Alacris provides identification and access management technologies for smart cards and digital certificates,” says the story.

“The acquisition comes as Microsoft is gearing up to release its Longhorn version of Windows Server in 2007, designed to be a more secure and reliable version of its software.”

CNET says Alacris got involved with Microsoft two years ago when it developed IDNexus 3.0 for Microsoft, “designed to simplify the automatic update of smart card-based certificates without reissuing them, as well as support fully operational temporary smart cards that are issued when original ones are lost”.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, adds the story.

The origional writer wasn’t very informed I guess. Longhorn has been renamed to Vista and they are getting sued over copyright violatons for using the Vista name as we speak.
