p2pnet goes mobile
p2p news / p2pnet:- Shareaza fan Tom ‘Higgy’ Higginson has finished the script he’s been writing to let people access p2pnet on mobile devices.
Actually, it’s been finished for a while now. But for reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with Higgy, we haven’t been able to post it.
He’d been accessing p2pnet.net through his phone using a Google service that converts web pages into WML. But, “Obviously this doesn’t produce the best output for browsing using something with a screen the size of a passport photo
”
No Kidding. Heh
However, thanks to Higgy, you can now tap into p2pnet anytime, anywhere.
Here’s the url http://p2pnet.net/index-wml.php. Just enter it into your phone, remembering to save it as a bookmark ; )
We normally use black-and-white for people pix but in Higgy’s case, we had to make an exception, for obvious reasons : )
“Anyone who uses WAP regularly should be able to do that much without any trouble,” says Higgy, who’s been programming for about ten years, starting with BASIC, “when I was around seven and PHP/MySQL about two-three years ago”.
He’s been hooked on p2p since he first heard about Napster —- about three months before it was finally shut down.
And as we mentioned earlier, Higgy also helps out on open source Shareaza, as does p2pnet’s development manager, Alex H. Higgy, now a member of the fast-expanding (but wholly unpaid ; ) p2pnet tech team, Alex and p2pnet tech manager Sixto Luis Santos will be working together to turn a concept Alex came up with into hard reality.
It’ll be open source micro-payment system that’ll go out into the world as P2Pay.
Stay tuned for that, or go here for Alex’s write-up on his idea.

Any increase in readership is important so if the site can be supplied in other formats, that’s a good thing, right? This will allow people to access p2pnet from pretty much anywhere. Trains, buses, on the way to and from work, whatever.
I have been informed that several people have asked for something like this so I’m glad to be able to have satisfied their request.
If anyone is using this, could you provide some feedback please?

i’ll give it a try, but if i become as addicted to it as Yahoo Messenger on WAP, can I send you my mobile bill? LOL

I tried the URL, and I get the normal page on my iPod Touch. What would be great is to do like I have found on other web sites, at the top of the home page is a large yellow button that says “iPhone users click here” or something of that nature, and it switches the site format to an iPhone optimized layout. With the iPod Touch/iPhone, the browser only let me save bookmarks of pages I was currently on, so actually providing the link, instead of an unclickable URL would help immensely.
