Movie business ‘out of whack’
p2p news / p2pnet:- The movie business is “out of whack,” says director Steven Soderbergh, quoted in the Hollywood Reporter. “The studio model has to be rethought.”
The national vp for the Directors Guild of America, he’s in partnership with Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner`s 2929 Entertainment company and they say they’ll be using p2p as a distribution vehicle in their new joint venture.
This month their $1.6 million digital movie Bubble, a murder mystery opens in Venice, Toronto, and New York.
“This is my response to certain trends in the entertainment industry,” the story has Soderbergh saying. “Everything changes and evolves and we’ve got to get with it, embrace it and find a way to make it work. The movies are not the way they used to be when I grew up. It’s 30 years later!”
Recently, “Consumers have a lot more authority these days and they know that by using technology [read p2p applications] they can gain access to content and they want to use the power that they have,” said Robert Iger, ceo-elect of the Walt Disney Co.
“We can’t stand in the way and we can’t allow tradition to stand in the way of where the consumer can go or wants to go” [read `We`d better shape up, or ship out.`]
So will Bubble be released using p2p as a distribution vehicle?
“No,” Cuban told p2pnet.
Stay tuned.

Naaah Cuban is an ass, I had a very interesting discussion with him showing his true colours. Where he may appear to be an advocate for the cause, he is actually only interested in how much money he can make off it.
