hey, in response to question to anyone: i had the same problem. just take it in to any apple store and they will fix it for you. of course, they will have to delete all the content to do that but i'm sure you have all the songs and stuff on itunes on ur comp anyways so it's all good. either that or never update and sync again and that sounds like a lame option. hope that helped. they'll do it for free by the way. :)

Hey ppl, whenever I plug in my damn ipod nano, it's like iTunes doesn't even recognize it anymore. It won't add new songs! It will only recharge the battery but my name doesn't even show up on iTunes as it usually does. This only happens with the nano, not my sister's video iPod. Any help?? I can't find any info on this! Is this another problem that Apple isn't talking about?

Help!

There is no problem with the Nano. Would youiu prefer the to make the device from a chunk of cast iron? The design with the acrylic front and chrome plated back has had a problem with scratching since the origional iPod. Mine was not the most beautiful thing after a years use but I learned from the experiance that you cant set it down on a dirty grity surface, or shove it in your pocket with your car keys and exspect it to not get damaged. I have owned at lest 1 of every iPod made and have 2 Nanos. My guess is people are stupid enough to put it in there back pocket and sit on it. Would you be dumb enough to do that to a Motorola Razor phone? Get a clue, the Nano is a delicate electronic device designed for someone above the level of astrolopiticines to use. treat it like an exspensive watch or jewelry. I repair and design electronics for the USAF and to get one of these to be indestructable by the below average mind it would look something like a brick and probably be made of the same low tech components. If you have any skills use some yellow buffing compound on a 1.5" cotton disk powered by a Dremel tool or equivelent device. I have sold many I pods the looked like crap and restored to like new condition with the formentioned tool. If you can't keep your Nano out of your change pocket buy an arm band or one of the Tube products, but remeber you still can't sit on it with our ever expanding Ameican asses. The LCD is glass and will break. If you want the most indestructable iPod, find a new or use Mini. The anodized finish will hold up against seting it on gritty surfaces or your car keys. The LCD window is recessed into the case and very hard. Watch out for the custom painted iPods as the paint is very easy to scratch and also causes the dial to be less sensitive as well as the finish rubs off like the bad finish Apple put on the G4 Titanium touch pad, the got it right on the Aluminium G4 laptops. The only MP3 player that will hold up to abuse is the Archos ugly crap and a few others. But they look like crap out of the box. Apple keep up the good work and nice design, and let the complainers wrap there device in armor to prtect it from ther bad judgment.

I am glad for the stories about the nano problems, I almost rushed out to buy one, but now I have decided to wait until apple has fixed the problem. I hope, and believe that there must be millions of poeple like me who have decided to wait or just not get one at all. I will be looking to see what apple does, and depending on their actions, or lack there-of; I will hold off on buying one. Too Bad-So-Sad for aaple. They're not getting my money, and they're not getting a lot of other people's money who are learning about the problem. I will buy one when I know that apple has addressed the problem to the satisfaction of consumers.

I dunno... That post was awful logical and well stated for this thread. What? No slavish fanboy hymns to Apple? No mindless "Anything and everything Apple sux!" diatribes? I read these Apple threads to laugh at people, and your post was... geez... trying to make some kind of actual point or something. Cut it out man.

the guy posted that because he's getting so many replies and hits, he'll probably move to a new server. he didn't think it would get so much attention, so he's probably trying to fix it.

give it some time.

Of course, it's not life threatening, but that's not the point. That's like walking up to someone, punching them in the face and saying, "I don't know what you're complaining about...it's not like I tried to kill you or something."

The point is that these things are failing / breaking within hours -- not days, HOURS -- of purchase and Apple is not providing remuneration for it's customers.

Sure, in today's world, we do expect a lot of products to be crap. However, we expect more from someone like apple, who sells the most expensive (by far) units on the market.

Apple has a real problem admitting when it does something wrong. We've seen this time and again. They are making it really hard for even loyal customer to want to continue to support them.

Is this really any worse than those console makers trying to burn your house down with dodgy power adaptors and or power cords?

At least a broken/scratched/smudged lcd screen isn't gonna potentially kill you, and your family, and your neighbours families, only to have the insurance companies go "No, we've heard about those consoles being fire hazards, we're not paying anything."

Let's face it, if bigbiz has created it, you gotta expect it to be utter crap until proven otherwise.

The links to his page bring the following message:

We're sorry, but we can't find the HomePage you've requested. It's possible that:

° The address was entered incorrectly. Check your spelling and try again.

° The .Mac member of this name has either created a page and removed it or has never published a HomePage.

° There is no .Mac member of this name. If you'd like this member name for yourself, sign up for a .Mac account right now and have your own HomePage in minutes.

It appears that Apple didn't take too kindly to his complaints.

Catflap, if you were truly serious with your criticisms of Apple, you'd know that every technology writer worth his or her salt has praised Apple for being the most innovative computer company out there. If Apple products are so "crappy", then why does the iPod hold more than 70% of the MP3 player market? Why can't anyone else come up with an "iPod killer"? Surely, if the iPod really is crap, then someone else should have already come up with a better player easily. But they haven't. Go figure.

And you also contradicted yourself by calling the iPod nano "crappy", but also pointed out that ANY device with an LCD is fragile. So which is it? Is it the nano or the fact that it's fragile just like any similar device?

And please, before you post a comment, look up words in the dictionary so you can spell them correctly. That way, maybe you'll be taken more seriously and make it look like you know what you're talking about.

Have a nice day :)

appleheads (and itune lovers) will never admit that apple products are crap. they'll just sve and save their money for a long time until they can buy the newest piece of garbage from apple.

first of all, anyone who has ever had any experience with a gameboy, mobile phone, a pocket calculator, an LCD wristwatch, or any other "pocket" toy, should know that LCD screens are extremely fragile and can get scratched or cracked very easily. that's why there are protective cases and covers made for these toys.

if it doesn't come with one - or there aren't any available for the device: DON'T BUY IT UNTIL THERE IS! you shouldn't put unprotected LCD toys in a pocket - EVER.

appleheads are all alike. they trust the company.

Will the sheep ever learn? Get rid of your wimpy Crapple iPods. Only losers have to buy what everyone else buys so they can "fit in." People with some individuality don't buy overpriced sh*t, but investigate & will buy an ugly product if it's the better deal.

Get a Creative Jukebox of some sort. I've had a Creative Nomad & the Zen, have dropped it, left it in the car in blazing heat & freezing cold, put it in my pocket, threw my bookbag with it on the flood, carry it everywhere, gotten it "moisturized" in the rain, ... The damn thing has been used so much the color coating's wearing off, but the bastard stills keeps playing. It's not as trendy looking, but it sounds way better, plays WMAs (that sound great coming from Roxio CD Creator rips @ 128 kbps), the battery can be swapped out in 2 seconds, plus Creative was real cool when I needed some cheap parts that fell of the outside (they sent them free!). When my battery went dead after 6 months, they sent me a new one with no hassle. They have to please their customers, unlike Crapple, which would probably sell even if the funds were PayPalled straight to Al-CIAda.
