First MPAA FECA victim
p2p news / p2pnet:- The entertainment cartels have successfully elevated the act of copying a movie to the level of a major federal crime and Curtis Salisbury, 19, has the distinction of becoming the first victim.
On Monday, Salisbury admitted using a camcorder to tape movies in a St Louis, Missouri, theater and distributing the results online, says CNET News.
“When Salisbury worked in the box office of a theater, he and others entered the projection booth after-hours and used a camcorder and audio recorder to tape ‘The Perfect Man’ and ‘Bewitched’ in June,” according to a plea agreement, says the story, going on that Salisbury appears to have been the first person prosecuted under the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act (FECA), approved in April.
Transgressors can be fined up to $250,000 whether or not any downloading actually takes place.

feca?
now that’s just wonderful. Why dont they just call it the sue the shit out of everyone law?
I imagine some big cartel meeting, mostly involving guys in suits snorting cocain of underage transexual prostitutes, debating how to tell those peasants who dared to be called ‘customers’ instead of ‘consumers’, to let it now feces is what they think of people who dont want to be be sheeple with the rest of the heard.
eh, and i imagine things are just going to get worse, where everything imaginable(and not imagined yet) will be exclusively owned by a select few of the hyperrich jackass companies to liscense out to each other and we poor folks just gonna have to grab our collective ankles and except it.
heed my words, free thinkers, for i have seen the face of God,
unfortunately, he was retarded.
(sorry, it just pisses me off when some poor slub gets sued and example of for more money than he has made, and probably will make, in his lifetime)

Ouote from cnet
“…stiff criminal penalties… usually reserved for violent crimes, may not be the best way to engender respect for copyright law.” Duh.
This guy was not selling counterfeit movies. WTF ever happend to the punishment fitting the crime? If one of these dickhead studio exces embezzled a million bucks from his own company the court system would fine him a hundred grand and he’d have to do 100 hours of community service playing tennis. This guy tapes a couple crap movies and SHARES them on the internet and is looking at the possiblity of 3 years hard time and a quarter mil fine. FECAL indeed.
GAME ON
Let’s show ‘em just how fecal (and impossible) trying to shove the toothpaste back in the tube is gonna be…

I feel sorry for anyone that lives in american. Imprisoning someone for sharing a file is just rediculous.
Clearly these senators know nothing about the internet or technology. They just see the words piracy and immediatly assume they are dealing with terrorists or something.
Even the word piracy is incorrect. Traditionally piracy is making illegal copies of copyrighted works for the intention of making money. Mutual sharing files freely is distinctly different.
Once again this just shows that politicians have an utter distain for the general public and voters alike. If the government no longer serves the best interests of it’s citizans, then the government should be removed!
All the parties are exactly the same. So how do we combat this? simple, dont vote at all. They need a minimum of votes to take office. If we all refuse to vote, then they can not be elected. We should stop voting until we have a party ready to exercise the best interests of the people, not the cartels and corporations.

Print out this article (don’t need to include this comment ;o)) take it to every cinema in your area and show it to the staff who work there. I’m sure they’d all consider finding another minimum wage paying job rather than risk being done for more money than they’ll ever see.
If cinemas started closing due to an inability to attract staff, i think even the cartels might have to stop and think about this a bit more.

I had a bet with myself that someone would turn this into ‘fecal’ within three posts ; )

Cheers!

A few of you seem to be missing the the point here. This guy did this to MAKE MONEY. Yes I have downloaded music files BUT i have never sold any of them. I listen to them only and have never given it a thought to sell them. Althought the punishment seems extreme I think this kind of activity has created (in part) (including music flies) the demise that us people who download for personel use are facing now. P2P has no place for people who download to make a profit from. Don’t get me wrong here, I am NOT siding with the BIG FOUR. But I will admit I do not feel to sorry for the greedy people who download solely to make money and get caught and finded. I believe those are the ones that have ultimitly spoiled it for the rest of us,occational downloaders.
