China to open state web site

p2p news / p2pnet:- The central government for Communist China will open its own web site on a trial basis on October 1, says Xinhua, the state news agency, on behalf of the Council’s General Office.

The website, with simplified and traditional Chinese versions first, will provide the governmental affairs information and data and on-line services of the Chinese central and local governments and their subordinate departments, a spokesman is quoted as saying.

The site is expected to have 12 columns including “China Today,” “China’s General Survey,” “Government Institutions,” “Laws and Regulations”, “Opening of Administrative Affairs”, “News Release” and “On-line Services,” says Xinhua, going on:

The establishment of the website is aimed at intensifying the communication among the government, enterprises and individual citizens, the spokesman said.

Although October 1 is given as the official launch date, the site appears to be already online.

In the meanwhile, China is trying to excuse its increasing censorship and manipulation of the Net by saying everyone does it.

New rules issued Sunday by the State Council, China’s cabinet, require internet operators to re-register their news sites and police their sites for content that can “endanger state security” and “social order, says Agence France-Presse.

“Any media in any country have to observe laws and regulations,” foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a briefing, says AFP, adding, “Any country in the world will regulate the internet and the media in accordance with law. It’s only natural. There’s no need to make a fuss about it.”
