Level 3 vs Cogent

p2p news / p2pnet:- Level 3 Communications and Cogent Communications are having a fight. Over money, natch. But users are the ones who are taking it in the teeth.

On Wednesday, network company Level 3 Communications cut off its direct `peering` connections to another big network company called Cogent Communications, says ZDNet.

That technical action means that some customers on each company’s network now will find it impossible, or slower, to get to Web sites on the other company’s network.

ZDNet says Level 3 claims its deal with Cogent isn`t financially viable because it [Level 3] is the larger of the two.

It has asked Cogent to seek other arrangements, possibly including paying for the traffic exchange, a Level 3 representative said, says the story, adding:

A similar Net blackout happened in 2001, when Cable & Wireless and PSINet were embroiled in a billing dispute.

This is just another reason for FreeWan.

Those who love doing and building something usually have a better product than those who do and build something solely for money.
The FreeWan Will be built by those who love information sharing.

Given the importance of the net to America, charge both firms with domestic terrorism.

Sounds good to me. Every website that sells stuff and is hosted on either of them should be calling their lawyers and suing for everything that applies too. Maybe once it starts to hit them in their hip pockets they’ll come to their senses.

As we say on IRC, NETSPLIT!
