Oh pu...............lease !!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the point of this article ?

The United States Copyright Office would never amend or change the dvd anti circumvention clause of the DMCA.

The dvd is the MPAA'S cash cow and they would never agree to such a thing.

The DMCA has been on the books for years and the entertainment cartels have too much of an investment in buying off most of the members of the United States Congress with kickbacks and bribes.

Also congress would never agree to amending the DMCA to allow people to back up their personal dvd collection under a fair use standard.

I live in the United States and my congresswoman feels that keeping the entertainment cartels safe from their customers who want to make dvd copies for their personal use and shielding them from all of those evil people who make movie copying software is more important than the common citizens that put her into office in the first place.

She always comes up with some silly arguement that copyright and patent rights is the bulwark of the US Constitution and a big cash cow export from hollyweird california and she's making the world safe from pirating.

If you actually think the US Copyright office is going to lift the ban on the dvd circumvention clause of the DMCA you would be delusional and just plain wrong.

The MPAA has too much of an investment buying off US congress people off with kickbacks and bribes So they can be protected from people who want to make personal back up copies of their legally bought dvds and from all of those evil people like the now defunct 321 studios who dared bucking the MPAA the United States Congress and the US Court system with their nerferiously sneaky copying software.

THE DVD IS HOLLYWEIRD'S CASH COW AND ANYTHING HAPPENING FROM ALL OF THIS IS NEXT TO NONE.

As far as any reform in congress is concerned don't expect any relief from them or from the court system for that matter.

IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN............

You bring up an interesting point. As copy-protected hollywood movies become public domain, if ever..., will the DMCA's anti-circumvention provisions trump public domain status? Will anyone care? I doubt this will ever be an issue since our bought-and-sold US lawmakers have provided media corporations the ability to extend copyright pretty much indefinitely. I feel like should comment to the FCC about this, but it seems like a waste of time. Public comment on the broadcast flag issue was predominantly negative but the good ol' FCC boys caved under industry pressure (and bribes no doubt). Grrrrr.....

Here is the sneaky way the Copyright Office reduces the responses: Make the announcent and then not allow comments until a month afterwards. By then most people will have forgotten.

I went to the Copyright Office site, but comments are not accepted outside the month of Novemmber.

All works that will some day be the public domain should be copyable.
That is the way it has always been. It should stay that way.

Imagine if the Beethoven scores could never be copied because the copying devices (cameras, photocopieers, scanners...) were made, by law, so that they could not copy musical scores? DMCA would have the same effect.

DMCA is for the purpose of destroying what should be the purpose of copyright laws: Promote more art production AND DISTRIBUTION. Production without DISTRIBUTION is worthless.
