CDs, DVDs doomed: report
CDs and DVDs will soon go the way of the LP, predicts Forrester Research.
“Based on our youth and adult surveys, half of music downloaders now buy fewer CDs, cutting CD sales by $700 million since 1999,” it states in a new report.
“Labels have responded by creating 10 Windows-based music services, due to be released in the next year.
“With movie piracy being three years behind music, movie executives are supporting cable- and Internet-based video on-demand. Result: By 2008, 33% of music sales and 14% of home video sales will shift to on-demand streams and downloads.
“As CDs and home video fade, Internet portals, cable, artists, and directors will thrive, and hundreds of video and music stores will close.”
