Clear Channel fined $755,000?
A collection of Clear Channel Communications stations could cost the company $755,000 – the highest ever proposed against a broadcast licensee.
The levy is for “26 apparent indecency violations that involved graphic and explicit sexual and/or excretory material, and were designed to pander to, titillate and shock listeners” aired in connection with the Bubba the Love Sponge program.
So says the the Federal Communications Commission in a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture against the stations.
The FTC says it’s proposing the statutory maximum because of Clear Channel’s “history of transgressions relating to the broadcast of indecent material over stations licensed to its subsidiaries”. It includes $40,000 for Clear Channel’s “apparent” failure to maintain certain required documents in the public inspection files of these stations.
Why all the fuss? With a name like Bubba the Love Sponge, the station has to be harmless.

A pictures section (”This pages contained herein are designed and intended solely for consenting adults – people who are at least 18 years old (21 in AL, MS, NE, WY, and any other location where 18 is not the age of majority)– who are interested in and wish to have access to visual images, verbal descriptions and audio sounds of a sexually oriented, frankly erotic nature.”)

From his Vietnam flashbacks, to his grandchildren story times, to his somewhat Homosexual fantasies, makes Ned a very sick old man. Nobody really knows how old Ned is, we think about 60. Ned is really the only person that will stick up to Bubba. Ned sometimes puts Bubba in his place, and is not afraid to say anything about anybody at anytime on the radio. We have to enjoy Ned’s old man in your face humor while we can. Just like his wife Garnet, who had throat cancer and is now forced to speak with a voice box, Ned is not going to be around forever. With his 2 pack-a day smoking habit and his 2 bottle a day Jack Daniel’s drinking binges, Ned is one of a kind!”

Stinks that Clear Channel was fined so much $$ and let Bubba go. I have since moved to Alabama but I deeply miss the Bubba the Love Sponge show on 98 Rock in the Tampa Bay Area of FL. I hope to be able to hear the show again on the Internet. If you don’t like the show don’t listen. That is what they made the radio dial for, to change the friggin channel if you don’t like what you hear. I don’t always agree with things the show does (I myself have changed the station). However you don’t see me sitting around criticizing Bubba for doing what he does. All in all I think the show is awesome.

Basicly they don’t have the bizalls to say it like it is

I really can not believe you think clear channel won, BUBBA will be back, because he’s honest, he tells the “few us of out there the truth.” Simply, if you, or your family does not want to here what he or the other members of the show have to say. DO the adult and responsible thing, and turn the channel. There are certainly more “feel good morning zoo type stations” for the lite hearted. AND LEAVE BUBBA alone, and the BUBBA ARMY will leave you alone.

Just wondering where the show crew is today. What are they doing? They were a great team. I listened to them when I lived in Tampa. 98 rock will never be the same. I herd a remake of one of the songs Ned sang on a station here in Atlanta. It just wasn’t the same…Lora E.

Bubba has the intellect of a bag of rocks. It’s good that kids don’t have to be exposed to this garbage any longer. Oh, I know the response- Change the channel right? Wrong! By you saying this, you are suggesting that I have to worry about my child while she goes to school, the mall, or the beach. Where are my rights? After all, being an infantry Marine, I did fight for them. Put him on XM if there is a market for him and stop demanding that I am the one that should take steps to avoid this foul mouthed uneducated fool on public airwaves. If one wants verbal porn, they can pay for it. Just like HBO. Stop suggesting that the masses have to “deal with it”, because we don’t. What a corrupting influence. Nice contribution to society. Obviously XM or sirus(or whatever it is called)can do without him also. This condescending, conceited fool would make fun of people who weren’t as lucky as he in life. I AGREE 100% IF U DONT WANNA HEAR WHAT HE HAS TO SAY THE TURN THE STATION. I HAVE 4 KIDS AND IF I HEARD HIM SAY SOMETHING THEY “SHOULDN’T HEAR” I WOULD CHANGE THE STATION PLAIN N SIMPLE.. WHY R U EVEN LISTENING IF UR SOOO DAMNED OFFENDED?? BUBBA ROCKS AND I CAN ONLY HOPE HE COMES BACK TO THE RADIO..
