That’s the latest refrain from Barney, the big, purple dinosaur adored by kids and loathed by their parents.
“Barney’s lawyers at the New York firm of Gibney, Anthony and Flaherty sent stiff warning letters last week to Web sites displaying less-than-flattering images of the plump saurian,” says CNET News.
” ‘Your Web site depicts a plush Barney toy in a violent manner or position,’ Matthew Carlin wrote Tuesday on behalf of Lyons Partnership, which owns the Barney trademark. ‘We are writing to request that you remove this violent content toward Barney on your Web site’.”

The stupid Purple dinosaur that is sold by the media cartel presents the commercialism at its finest and works to turn kids into mindless good little consumers. I think it would be funny to get ahold of a bunch of Barney video cassettes and record bloody Barney over the commercial Barney and then put the tapes back into the mindstream. I bet that would make for some nice lamescream news hehe. That would be a nice way to tell that lawyer where he can stick his threats.

The people responsible for inflicting Barney upon the world have a volcanic hissy fit anytime someone publically pokes fun at their wretched creation or if someone publishes some kind of absurd paraody, like the “I hate you, you hate me.” song involving the pedantic purple Pollyanna.
Despite knowing full well that such parodies are quite possibly the most strongly protected case of “fair use,” their lawyers have nasty C&D letters at the ready to be faxxed on a moment’s notice. They’ve pulled this stunt many times over the years, trying to coerce and intimidate those brave enough to publish an ‘unauthorized’ Barney parody into withdrawing their material from the internet. They’ve even pressed several cases into a trial and have lost all or nearly all of them (not sure on the exact batting average, but it’s rather poor.) Some were so ridiculous that Barney had to shell out attorney’s fees for the defendants.
Furthermore, making a big stink and filing a lawsuit only serve to draw attention to the material they find so icky-poo. Remember Jib-Jab? Yeah, interesting twist there as reported in another p2pnet story. Remember Al Franken, BIll O’Reilly, & Fox News? That moved Al’s career to the next level. Then there are Mattel’s numerous lawsuit involving Barbie in all manners of depiction from Lizzie Borden to Leather SM Dominatirx, The Wind Done Gone, The San Diego Chicken beating the tar out of Barney (not the real one, an ersatz Barney) at a ballgame, and more recently, Avenue Q & Spongebong Hemppants.
You would have think that they would have learned by now. If you don’t want people to notice the stain on your shirt, don’t go around complaining loudly about the ignoramus who spilled coffee on you.

Barney’s very cool. He may be part of the cartel some have mentioned here, but he does help educate kids of varying ages. As long as parents don’t leave their kids to stare at the tv screen all day - it’s a good production. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to defame the poor sod like this? But that’s me, relatively sane as i am. This sketch and anything like this is macabre and irresponsible. Kids doing a search for Barney come up with this tripe from some overgrown, perhaps unloved, kid who obviously harbours some violent traits (perhaps due to those mindless cartoons of the 80s or earlier from the same cartel). So we come full circle. Only some are waving the flag trying to be heroes but they aren’t all that clever nor blameless after all.
