Nintendo Wi-Fi connection
p2p news / p2pnet:- My daughter Emma, who’s nine, calls the McDonalds logo the Sign of the Flying Bum.
We’ve never had much use for McD junk, the exception being the occasional egg-and-bacon ‘muffin’ thingies. And we dropped even those after watching SuperSized Me (check your favourite BT tracker) and the McLibel documentary which describes how a postman and a gardener in the UK accused McDonalds of animal cruelty, false advertising, and a lot of other things, and won.
McDonalds is like the entertainment cartels, so huge and so powerful that it gets away with murder, and, like the cartels, because it has nothing real to offer, it has to keep on finding news ways to keep the punters punting. And, again like the studios and labels, it absolutely MUST get ‘em while they’re young and impressionable, hence the deal it’s cooked up with Nintendo.
"Nintendo announced an agreement with wireless Internet provider Wayport to set up free access to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection in almost 6,000 McDonald’s,” says GameSpot News.
“The deal will allow Nintendo DS owners to walk into a McDonald’s and play Wi-Fi-enabled games with others on the service, whether they are in the building or around the world. There will be no setup required–users simply launch a game that supports Wi-Fi, and play against others while sucking down shakes.”
Pass.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local political representatives. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.

Maybe, I will work on some code in order to allow laptop computers with wireless NIC’s to connect as well. That way, I can download content from their broadband connection since the local telcos refuse to allow broadband in my area.

Emma just got out of bed and came down to see what I’ve been up to so far. I showed her this post and, “Is that Ronald McDonald’s bum?” – she asked. “It’s the right colour”.
heh
Cheers!
