Phil Spector murder appeal

p2p news / p2pnet: Lawyers for Phil Spector, accused of murdering B movie actress Lana Clarkson, say statements he made after Clarkson died should be thrown out because he was in drug withdrawal when he talked to police.

Spector denies shooting her and a hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday will decide if the statements will be included at his trial in January, says the BBC, going on that according to grand jury transcripts, “a police officer testified that after Mr Spector was handcuffed, he said: ;What’s wrong with you guys? What are you doing? I didn’t mean to shoot her. It was an accident;."

However, prosecutors intended to use the statements in papers filed with the court, says the story, adding:

“They have also urged Superior Court judge Larry P Fidler to forbid Mr Spector’s team from mentioning the defendant’s allegation that Ms Clarkson committed suicide during key portions of the trial.”

Clarkson was best known for Barbarian Queen, says legalzoom.com, continuing:

“As an actress in her 40s Lana Clarkson had been trying to restart her career, taking a new interest in comedy. She had worked steadily through her 20s, appearing in hit TV shows such as ‘The A-Team,’ and ‘Three’s Company.’ But her most notable career accomplishment was her starring role in Roger Corman’s Barbarian Queen and its sequel, Barbarian Queen II. At the time she met Spector, Clarkson was working at the House of Blues to make ends meet and hoping to connect with industry VIPs.”

Of Spector it says:

“Best known for his ‘Wall of Sound’ production style, Phil Spector created numerous pop hits in the 1960s and 1970s, including the Ronnett’s ‘Be My Baby’ and the Righteous Brothers’ ‘You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling.’ He also produced the last Beatles album, ‘Let It Be,’ and later worked with John Lennon on ‘Imagine’."
