Yahoo’s Reality Net
p2p news / p2pnet: All kinds of glitz, bells and whistles, often with little genuine value, are aimed at YOU as a member of the fickle surfing public ; )
The idea is to capture your attention and the latest effort comes Yahoo which is trying to spin a Reality type thingy your way.
It’s hired Richard Bangs, a partner in a US adventure travel firm to, “create multimedia packages about exotic - and sometimes dangerous - expeditions on mountains, rivers and islands around the world”.
Whoooeeee!
“Bangs’ initial package will debut Monday and revolve around a climb up the Eiger in Switzerland," says the Associated Press. “The five-part serial follows the journey of John Harlin III, whose father died on the Eiger 40 years ago,” it says, quoting Yahoo’s vp of content Scott Moore as saying, in all seriousness:
"We are trying to define the next generation of Internet media.”
Heh.
The strategy is, “designed to set Yahoo apart from its biggest rivals - Google Inc., Microsoft Corp.’s MSN and Time Warner Inc.’s AOL …..”

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local political representatives. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.

remember everyone that Yahoo doesn’t care about your privacy and will give it out to whomever they wish irregardless of what their privacy says. I am thinking about getting a new mail service because of this and a different messenger. If you don’t remember, just look up the case where Yahoo got a journalist in jail for giving out information for which Yahoo got a stake in Communist China.
