Nobody said anything about PROFIT mr. admin. The point is if people pay for your site then they could have payed for their downloaded content instead (and gotten a lot less, which is besides the point). So money does change hands and the copyright holders don't get a (fair or otherwise) share of that, some people (judges for instance) might think that is not the way it should be...

Ok.. this is the deal.. I am an admin of TripTorrents..
i have many connections with other BT admins
WE DO NOT (other than a few.. which will probably not like to be named)
MAKE ANY PROFIT FROM THESE SITES/TRACKERS
all the money either goes to Server costs (which are fawkin high) or Script improvements..
it is not a very nice thing when you put alot of time, effort and money into starting a BT site/Tracker and getting nothing to show the appriciation and assistance to help pay for server costs.. as I SHOULD KNOW...
Thanks

Is there any news what happened to Torrentit? It went down the other day and hasn't been active since.

This was one of the best tracker sites I used and keeping the ratios up made downloading a dream.

"but, that is not what my article is about. it's about the unlawful persecution of innocent, law-abiding filesharers and (for the most part)"

What a bunch of hookie...how much content on these trackers is actually non-copyrighted?

i agree that trackers and indexing sites should not beg, request or require donations, and in return offer lame "VIP" status. that's just bullshit. whether they're actually earning a profit and keeping it is anyone's guess, but it only fuels the lies that "everyone" is making money from p2p, especially filesharers.

i've said this many times here on p2pnet. if someone wants to make a tracker or indexing site, they should be prepared and willing to pay for it themselves, otherwise they have no business making a website.

i used to have a very big problem with demonoid because of their former elitest attitude. but for the most of this past year, they've allowed indexing of torrents from anywhere, which is much fairer than barring them outright as they used to. i still don't like - or agree with - ratio tracking, but demonoid now only tracks files oin their own tracker.

i had never heard of triptorrent, so i don't know what they do. i never used snarf. occasionally i use torrentspy. and i regularly use mininova and newnova.

but i NEVER give money to anyone for something that should be totally free.

in my article, i was refering to websites and counterfeiters who charge money for films or p2p services as a requirement.

but, that is not what my article is about. it's about the unlawful persecution of innocent, law-abiding filesharers and (for the most part).

as jon newton emailed me today: "It's all part of cartel attempts to crush BT before it starts using it for its own purposes, etc etc."

that's what this article is about.

"... as long as no one is making money."

These sites ARE making money, by advertising and begging for donations, if they weren't they had little to fear under the current dutch judicial system as far as I understand them. They are in it for the money hence they are running with their tails between their legs, good riddance!

We are having problems with our server. We'll be back as soon as possible, but due the nature of the problems, it might take a few days.

>BREIN: Hey, we’re gonna shut you down…next week…maybe. But we’re telling you now.
>
>BT Admin: Oh. OK. Thanks for the warning. ;)

My guess is that it REALLY was a warning. The Dutch legal system is not wound as tight as most.

"(a cartel is illegal by any definition!) "

Wow you must be smoking some serious crack. Do you even know what you are talking about?

A cartel is organization that induces price fixing, and keeping tight control over an enterprise. This is illegal in most countries within their own sovereignty. However, internationally, cartels are allowed to exist..

A prime example: OPEC

So, there are exceptions to this rule you have pulled out of the sky.
