Chinese ‘anti-pirate’ single
p2p news / p2pnet: A partnership between a chastened Baidu.com and Communist China “mobile value-added services provider Hurray!” (as opposed to Yahoo! ; ) has resulted in what the two describe as a “pop single for handsets” to “steer clear of CD pirates”.
They’ve jointly released a number by singer Chen Hao “in cooperation with China Mobile and Chengtian Entertainment,” says InterFax China.
The song will, “just be available as a ringtone” but the “quality will be very good,” says the story, going on that a spokesperson couldn’t confirm the size or file format, “but said it cannot be downloaded to PCs or emailed – it will only be available on mobile phones”.
The single will be released and promoted on the Net and mobile network instead of via traditional CDs, “to avoid piracy problems," Hurray spokesperson Du Hua told Interfax.
China is squarely behind entertainment cartel efforts to Shanghai the Net.

The US should stop crying about China being lax on piracy. Guess who are funding these pirates? Where would Baidu’s MP3 search be if it wasn’t for the US venture capital money supporting its growth? If Bush wants to fight Al-Qaeda by shutting off their funds, the US should do the same with the US funded piracy operations in China. Where’s Mr. Sarbanes and Mr. Oxley now?
