p2p news / p2pnet: With all the attention on the video iPod (which costs a bomb and offers little, if anything, in return), Google video, and so on and etc, here’s Revver, a very cool new indie application which is currently occupying most of Freenet creator Ian Clarke’s attention.

“Revver connects creators, viewers, and advertisers in a sponsorship marketplace for online video, taking full advantage of the open flow of video on the Internet, rather than trying to fight it,” says the site.

“Revver provides all the tools you need to distribute your work online and earn money. Revver benefits everyone by embracing the fact that content can be free and accessible online and still reward creators.”

And, very important, users can control the type of advertising attached to their videos, and remove them from Revver at any time with no problems.

“It’s my primary focus right now, although obviously I continue to work on Freenet in my spare time as always,” Clarke told p2pnet. “The basic concept behind Revver is to provide creators of interesting videos with the ability to generate revenue from their talent in an easy and convenient way, in much the same way that Google’d AdWords does for website creators.

“Our goal is to create a creative ecosystem that stimulates and rewards diverse creativity, while providing the public with a rich source of interesting, provocative, or just plain funny videos.”

How does it work? You upload a video to Revver and a brief, unobtrusive ad called a RevTag is attached at the end.

You can then track your video’s performance via your Revver account, which tells you exactly how often your video is being watched ——-

——– and how much money you’ve earned : )

RevTags are attached to the actual video meaning there’s no restriction on how they can be distributed.

“It’s a totally open system,” says the web page. “The more that people email your video, post it to other websites or download it from P2P, the more money you will earn.”

To upload videos to Revver, which works with Windows, Apple and Linux systems, you need a Revver account and the Revver Upload Tool. After you download and double-click the Upload Tool, you can drag and drop a video to post it to your account.

All common formats, including Quicktime, Windows Media, MPEG, MPG, ASF, MOV, WMV and most forms of AVI, are accepted and once you upload a video, it’s processed by the Revver system which adds the RevTag.
