Sony in another law suit
p2p news / p2pnet: Contracted Sony singer Willy Nelson’s tour bus apparently has a copy of the late Bill O’Neill’s ‘War Chief’ on the side and O’Neill’s widow says Sony included three shots of the bus as part of a recent Willie Nelson CD.
Not only but also, “Willie Nelson, Revolutions of Time … the Journey” includes 32 pages of notes and photos, and the War Chief is in photos on pages 24 and 25, as well as on the back cover of the CD, says the Helena Independent Record.
The upshot is that Mrs O’Neill wants $900,000 for the use of it on a compact disc, an unspecified amount in punitive damages for “actual malice” all copies of the album with the War Chief image “impounded and destroyed,” says the story.
Officials with Sony Music reached in New York, “said they weren’t aware of the lawsuit, nor was Nelson’s publicist, Elaine Shock in California,” says the Helena Independent Record, adding it’s the third copyright infringement lawsuit file this month on behalf of Linda O’Neill.

So, the riaa wants us to respect their members IP, in spite of their members being unwilling to respect anyone else’s IP. I get it now.
And they wonder why no one is listening?

Anyone else think this is a little…er…excessive? I mean, sure a painting by Van Gough MIGHT be worth the ridiculous amounts of money people pay for them but .9 million bucks for having a photo of a copy of the picture on the side of a bus in the CD artwork?
