Sprint wireless music downloads

p2p news / p2pnet: Sprint Nextel is launching expensive wireless music downloads using phones from Samsung and Sanyo.

Full songs will go for $2.50 each and, "Consumers can also transfer the songs they buy through Sprint’s service to as many as three personal computers by linking their phone to the computer with a cable," says Reuters.

Called Power Vision, the service will also live and recorded television and multimedia downloads, the capability to transfer high-resolution pictures and video, and customized information channels, says BetaNews, going on:

"The service is based on Sprint’s new CDMA EV-DO network, which it had already launched in some airports and business districts across the country. According Sprint, the network averages speeds of 400-700kbps with peak rates to 2.0Mbps, close to home broadband speeds."

With Verizon’s service, one can link their laptop or maybe even PDA and download what they want for the price of the connection. Yes, that is so obvious that I hate to point it out, but any decision maker from Sprint reading this should consider that the price of the song is quite outrageous considering that the customers are back in control.

Thatis the problem with these proprietary formats, such as cell phones. If you want to upload or download anything useful (such as pictures taken or music) they charge you so much!!!

Great idea to do but the hoops you have to jump through to do it are amazing. Verizon purposely locks thier phones so you use thier services. Case in piont….. I use cingular and have a sony ericcson P910 and my friend has verizon. I make my own ringtones and send it to my phone via bluetooth or thier docking station. he has to email it to verizon and then they send it to him. Or if I take video or pictures with my phone I can easily send it to any computer via them methods above while he has to email it to a adress and also pay the charges for sending MMS messages. Verizon is nice and I like thier broadband but they and sprint need to be like the rest of the world and…

    1. use sim chips cause that just makes life so much easier and gives me more choices for phones.

    2. Unlock thier phones I would probley use them since I don’t like cingular but thier phones are locked and every thing you want to do you have to pay for.

I sent my girlfriend a text message and because she did not have a plan it wound up costing her $1.25 (US) when it would have cost a cingular costmer $.25 (US)

Don’t get me wrong I have had Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and Cingular and hate them all, Have not tried T-mobile yet. The only reason I like cingular and T-mobile is cause they use sim chips and don’t lock you so tight with services and phone restrictions
