Yahoo Alpha Geek statue
p2p news view / p2pnet: Yahoo has erected a life-size alpha geek statue to honour the Yahoo Mail team, “which they think beat the Gmail team,” posts Philipp Lenssen on slashdot, going on:
“The statue’s plaque says it’s presented ‘in recognition of tremendous intellectual efforts put forth in order to defeat Gmail’, and: ‘Not since the code breakers in Britain’s Bletchley Park deciphered Germany’s Enigma code during World War II has so much brainpower been focused on kicking an enemy’s ass.” Flickr has a photo.’ It’s a nice little article on the difference between two of the nets superpowers.”

Cracking Enigma was a Polish triumph which was said to have significantly shortened World War Two.
OK. The company is just ridiculing Google and the statue is excellent. But for the Yahoo yahoos to use Enigma to crow in this way goes too far. In fact, it’s just plain tasteless.

Anyone try to download Acrobat Reader lately? Unfortunately, I had to do so when installing a computer for a client. I spent about 2 hours doing so. I had to run Acrobats download mangaer. A portion of that download was Yahoo’s “toolbar.” I was later given an option as to whether I agreed to the “Yahoo’s” toolbar licencing agreement. I of course chose no, since I refuse to have any kind of crap from Yahoo - SBC Communications infesting my computer (I was a tech support rep for SBC/Yahoo). My problem with add on is that there are those who may feel that they have to install this crap if they want to use Acrobat Reader. I wish PDF files were not the standard file type for published documents. I know that their is an alternative PDF reader for Linux (probably because Abode refused to release a Linux version for a while),
but I do not know if there is an alternative for Winblows. Any way, I have little use for Yahoo anything.
